I'll cut right to the chase with the job market:

Production went overseas because it was cheaper to produce overseas. No amount of government policy will change that.

Government policy which prohibits outsourcing. Also corporate policy which discourages it. de-liberalization of trade laws, etc. There's plenty of government policy that can change it. China was just as cheap in the 50's as it is now.

Women make up the majority of students on campus yet still have many more programs designed to help them and only them. Yay, reverse discrimination is great!

The textile mills and other simple manufacturing jobs are not coming back. It doesn't matter why they went at this point in time.

Even if minimum wage was repealed tomorrow, citizens would not work for the same wage that manufacturing companies pay currently to their employees.

Also the taxes in China are LOW. In that link you posted Wikki, even though the US is listed as 4th, take a look at the numbers between China and the US.

Its no surprise that Singapore is at the top though because it is a trading powerhouse.

They very well could, depending on how India and China develop. Their wages are rising much faster than productivity, so it might be possible that transport costs will outweigh labor savings in the future.

Yes, let's all focus on the "important" things. The reason Johnny Analogyman can't walk isn't because he has no right leg, it's because his left leg has a stubbed toe.

You mean women are more advantaged in how there are still more of them in poverty and having to take care of kids, thus receive more in government assistance? Yeah that truly is a real advantage.

And for the other stuff source please of all the benefits women get that us poor men are denied.

No, it was all about industrializing China and bringing it into the modern era. Take a look at how China was pre WWI/WWII, it didn't have any of the industrial capacity that the West had.

The Great Leap Forward was an attempt at industrialization, which turned into a horrific famine when "rural industrialization" was given priority over, well, farming. Attempts at private farming were treated, as you put it, as "Saying no to Chairman Mao."

Not really. The great leap forward was a dismal failure in every respect. Chinese steel produced by peasant farming communes was completely and totally useless in any sort of industry. It wasn't until the 80s that China really started to fix itself up for proper industry.

I said industrialization was a reason for the Great Leap Forward. I never said it worked. See my last post.

Actually that's not technically true, because such simple jobs can be automated, and it takes people to design, build, operate the automation equipment. That should be the direction of manufacturing, but it's much easier to just let poor third worlders do it. Just like you people are perfectly happy to let poor third worlders pick your strawberries so you don't have to pay a dollar more, when you could have something like this.

Oh well, science and technology sucks anyway.

I agree though in that the threadjacked portion should be split into a new thread.
