Rick Santorum Megathread: A Frothy Mixture of Opinions

Postby Talislanta » Tue Feb 21, 2012 2:36 am

Edit: We've gone ahead and changed this into a Megathread for this particular person for as long as he is in the race. Enjoy. -NERV

I just read in a newspaper what Rick Santorum said about the Netherlands concerning euthatasia.

The republican presidential candidate [sic] Rick Santorum has said that in the Netherlands, old people are being euthenised against their will.
Santorum said this earlier at a forum meeting in a church in Missouri, was revealed by videos released today.

The fervently catholic conservative claimed that over 10% of all deaths in the Netherlands are the result of euthenasia. Figures show that in reality, this is a little over 2%. On top of that, the republican claims over half of the cases of euthanasia are forced, and not voluntary.

Santorum proceeded to claim that Dutch elderly in care homes wear bracelets which say "Don't kill me" and don't dare frequent Dutch hospitals and instead go abroad for medical care.

These claim arte false. Normally I don't cae if people have the wrong idea about my country. But when a presedential candidate is pulling numbers from his ass. I have to say something, Rick Santorum is full of shit. I cannot believe that people think he would be a good president. He would take the US back into the dark ages.

Republicans live in an alternate-reality bubble of their own creation.

This is pretty much an established fact.

Dude, if we made a thread for every crazy thing that dude says, it'd be all we talk about.
"...I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." -MLK Jr.

I hope Beatrix Koningin der Nederlanden walks up to Santorum in a black dominatrix leather suit and whips his sorry ass into oblivion.

Is the death penalty not a form of forced euthanasia?

No, because euthanasia is about not SUFFERING while dying. Eu + thanatos = good death.
Experimental evidence points out that most methods used for death penalty aren't painless.

I see now. For some reason I thought you were the one posting the article AND asking why [sic] was added after the statement; ie. I thought the [sic] was included by the author/editor of the article.

Which confused me because the editor would've just changed the wording.

Silly part is this whole process isn't even technically a part of the political process itself. The Republican (And Democratic) parties have weird rules surrounding how they choose their candidates. It's just that the current shit-show that is the Republican primaries is particularly hilarious. Usually it doesn't ever get any sort of publicity worth noting up until it's time to decide on the exact candidate. This time around, the Republicans have gone into primary overload. At their detriment, more than likely.

Santorum? Pulling things from asses? Santorum full of shit?

More seriously, everyone, Santorum is fair game; he's not a member of this forum. So you can all say Santorum is a evil, twisted, moronic little shit to your heart's content.

But I'd offer the gentle reminder that we do have Republicans on NSG - really, we do - so 'all Republicans are [something nasty]' can be more problematic if anyone gets carried away.

1) Whilst the word strictly means good death, the accepted definition of euthanasia is not so much about the death itself, it's about the timing and choice.
2) The lethal injection process is designed to be painless - a powerful anesthetic is administered first - but granted this doesn't always render the subject unconscious.
3) Sometimes, the same lethal injection process is used for euthanasia cases.

Therefore I would argue that the death penalty is forced euthanasia.

Yes, I might be trolling. No, not like the guy who created the thread about towel heads.

Rick Santorum is soiling enough the world as it is. We don't have that kind of stuff happening in Holland, lol. But Rick Santorum can bury himself in a hole for all he's worth. I'd rather have a llama president of the US than this .. piece of crap.

He's one of the biggest morons we've ever known.
