1. So god's a utilitarian? Who'd could have guessed?
2. Even as utilitarianism, it still fails. Killing your own people for very minor infractions is not a way to get ahead. It's not a way to ensure dominance. Instead, it's a way to vastly decrease your population, not exactly something a fledgling nation would desire. Requiring everyone to breed I can see the logic behind. Killing someone who has homosexual intercourse I cannot.

That's because you're applying fucking modern thinking to things that happened over 2000 fucking years ago.

If Yahweh is all-knowing and all-powerful and, we're told, benevolent and loving, shouldn't the "love thy neighbor" stuff be all over the Old Testament? If he knows everything, he should know what's good and what's bad universally. But yes, since the OT is just the collected myths and legends of the ancient Hebrews, it is pointless projecting modern morality onto it.

Except that's exactly my point. If you want to say it was just the primitive morality of a philosophically and scientifically illiterate tribe, that's fine. However, if you claim it to be from god, I've got questions.

Well, of course, the "shameful acts" are no better defined than "as a man has with a woman".
I guess those verses mean "thou, man, shalt not have vaginal sex with other men". Anal sex and oral sex are ok. Expecially oral sex, because it is not what enters a man's mouth that defileth him. It is what comes forth: so, no spitting AFTER oral sex.
Deliberate misinterpretation.
The Bible is firmly against any homosexual acts and speaks of sexual relations. The verses quoted are aimed at any sexual relations and as marriage is an ancient union targetting procreation, the bible is firmly against it.
But if like me you do not care what the bible says, you may simply not care about homosexual acts. I will however not resort to making up religous quotes and meanings to try and justify my position.

Uh, God don't hate anybody, he hates their sinning. There is a difference.
That said, in Christian theology, Jesus died to cleanse people of their sins.
Doesn't sound like hate to me. Not one bit.

Whether or not the horse is dead is meaningless. Look at the Falkland Islands thread, where the same three or four people have been saying, "Is not! Is too!" for 60 pages.

It's like modern, moderate religious belief comes with an invisible disclaimer, "Note: even though all of this stuff is true, it's not true true but "true" true."
It's like they all know, but there's some kind of magic they get out of going along with the pretense of it.
