What is it with all the Freudian slips recently?

and its easy to make sure they are telling the truth. A lie coming from a tortured person is easy and then you waterboard them to make them speak the truth.

Basically, a lie is easy to find out, so when you confront them with it and threaten to torture them again they are forced to tell the truth. Torture is morally wrong but what alternative is their? Ask them nicely?

Legal interrogation methods more proven to produce results and less likely to raise recruitment rates of insurgent groups? If they lied once under torture, why would subsequent torture be more reliable?

Also, the methods of earning their trust are much more effective than physical/mental torture. Torture has been shown to give false information time and time again. They want you to stop torturing you, so they'll anything they think you want to hear to make you stop.
