Should books every be censored/banned?

Postby Etharnor » Mon Feb 06, 2012 5:47 pm

i personally think that books should never be censored/banned, no matter what language they use or what their subject matter is.

the reason I am asking is because my language teacher is forcing us to buy the censored version of huckleberry finn, and it really annoys me that we are forced to read a watered down version of one of the greatest books of all time.

No, never*.

But I'm not surprised, Huck Finn just never catches a break no matter WHAT generation is reading it. The good news though, you can get it for free, uncensored, on Project Gutenberg.

If you don't want children doing book reports on "injuns" and "Nigger Jim", then don't assign the book. Forcing a censored version on kids is more hateful than using the language in its historical state.

Yes, but teachers think it's a classic and they must read it, but they censor it anyway because they don't care about history.

They're massless because gays care so much about their weight, and have spin 2, cause that's as much spin as particles can get, and liberals love spin. The exchange of spin 2 particles creates an attractive force between objects, which is why gays are so promiscuous. When gays get "settle down" into a lower energy state by marrying, they release faggon particles in the form of gaydiation. Everyone is a little bit gay, so every human body has some gaytrinos in it, meaning that the gaydiation could cause straight people to be attracted to gays and choose to turn gay.

Actually doing them is a crime, reading it and owning it is not but it could be used as evidence if you're suspected of terrorism.

I always thought it be cool if during their attempts of rewriting Huck Finn that they should change Nigger Jim to Robot Jim. Then it would be a cool Sci-fiction story about the rights of androids and other machines.

More seriously, no as censorship is idiotic just don't read something if it offends you that much.

Robots would come miles to hear Jim tell about it, and he was more looked up to than any robot in that country. Strange robots would stand with their mouths open and look him all over, same as if he was a wonder. Robots is always talking about witches in the dark by the kitchen fire; but whenever one was talking and letting on to know all about such things, Jim would happen in and say, “Hm! What you know ’bout witches?” and that robot was corked up and had to take a back seat.

Incitement of Violence, as well as the poppy burners; things that transcend politics. Plus there's the milder forms of censorship such as film ratings.

Depends what you mean by censorship.

The example in the OP is ridiculous, but I have no problem with keeping say, the Turner Diaries, or the Anarchist's Cookbook out of school libraries. Similarly, pornography is probably best censored on school computers and in the library.

Books should never be censored. I don't care if the book uses the terms "nigger", "spick", "kike", "cracker", or any other similar word. Children need to grow up and learn that that is history. Especially black kids that say "That's racist!" to anything that has the word "black" in it.
