When you run, is your goal a certain distance, say 10 miles, or a certain time frame, say an hour, spent running?

When I'm doing my running (Currently suspended due to snow) I aim for 5 min warm-up, 2k run, 5 min cool down daily.

I run until the next chapter starts, or until I die or have to start a puzzle or something...

Um, shouldn't the OP give his own stance or what he does for this to not count as spam?
When I used to run last summer and before I used to run about three miles before quitting.

My goal is a certain destination. Usually the toilet or the train.

When I run, I run until I can't run any more. I usually do 15 miles a day (if I' am able depending of weather)

I go distance. Running for a set time might be feasible if you're on a track, but I generally run on rural roads, which means I go out and back, usually walking the last half-mile or so as a cool down. There are too many variables--traffic, terrain (depending on which route I choose), road conditions (if it's rained recently, you can bet I'm going to be going a bit slower than I normally would be), and even just how I'm feeling--for me to be able to reliably say how far out I need to go to make a run last a certain amount of time; and I find it difficult to continually check a watch as I go.

I go for 8-13 miles per day as fast as possible. The maximum I can probably run is about 35 or so miles before I fall down.

I'm not much of a runner, since the only times that I run are when I'm in between classes. Takes me eight minutes to get from my english class to my graphics class while running. It's about a mile. Of course, that's with my 50lbs bag with me.

So yeah, I run with a specific goal in mind.

Seriously, daily? How do you manage not to run into overtraining effects?

It's called conditioning.

Sometimes I go on 15 mile ruck marches with a 75-80 pound pack, sometimes I run over 20 miles, all for the lulz.

I'm not much of a runner, bad knees, osteoarthritis and a history of detached tendons tends to make it unwise for me to do much running. Walking, however, is something I can do all day. I try to get in three miles in addition to my regular activities. In the summer, I swim (actually, since there are a lot of indoor pools where I am, I swim in the winter as well).

This is an amazing idea, especially for people just getting started. Once you're settled in you can just bump it up to more chapters.

I run to forget. Once I have forgotten, or dropped from pure exhastion, I will cool down. I push myself past my limit, for stopping at your limit will never get you anywhere, but there, at your limit.

Nice, running is a great way to relieve stress from various events. Nothing like a run after a fight with the old ball and chain.

Time based. Much easier on the brain.
And, no offense, but Poisoned Hope, that is an incredibly stupid way to train. It will just leave you hurt.
Yes, I might be trolling. No, not like the guy who created the thread about towel heads.

The only thing your body knows and can relate to is the pace at which you are running and how long you have done so. There's nothing wrong with tracking mileage and I would suggest you keep a log of your runs.It will benefit you tremendously in that you can see the conditions where you have ran well, the conditions where you have run poorly, when you got sick et al. When I trained to run marathons or was busy competing in local 5k- half-marathons, I could see a pattern to some of the reasons why I was getting sick and worn down- mainly from over training or starting back into serious training too soon after 10k and larger races. I found out I could bust my keester about 6-7 weeks, but then if I went longer, I would get an upper respiratory infection, injured etc.

Anyhow, I made it a point to back off after 5-6 weeks of training and take a week where I ran no speed work or hills and just ran at a conversational pace. It helped me qualify for the Boston Marathon as an open runner.

Good luck!

Yeah, it might be a stupid way to train, but it works. When nothing else can make you forget, run. It's better than becoming a druck or a druggie, eh?

I would disagree... theres no reason you couldn't be a drunk runner. *nods*

I have a pretty set route with some possible variations. I run the route to completion, then stop. I've never measured in miles, though. I should do that before too long.
