It's About Time Germany Pays for its Own Defense

Postby The Caliphate of Cordoba » Mon Jan 30, 2012 5:57 pm

Two decades after the Cold War ended, the U.S. is finally bringing two combat brigades back home where they belong. They're not coming from Iraq or Afghanistan, but from Germany.
Army Chief of Staff Gen. Ray Odierno told the Associated Press that two heavy-armor combat brigades currently stationed in Germany would be removed from Europe before 2014, leaving two combat brigades in Europe (one in Germany, the other in Italy). The plan is part of a reduction in force that will eliminate 80,000 active duty soldiers from the Army by 2017.

My question is Why do we even have troops in Europe??

To ensure security in the region, and also, it provides a quick strike force to most of Europe, Africa, and even the Middle East.

Remember the lesson of the world wars? You let up on Germany for a few years, and they'll rearm and be annexing the Sudetenland before you can say currywurst.

Remember Rhodesia.

The reason why is it is because they were deployed during the Cold War, and until now, they kept them there, in case if some "communist" state that is a degenerated socialist state ever rose up. With little chance that would happen, the US decided to withdraw. But, should revanchism come into the fold, the world is watching...

we are there really because that's as close as we can get to Russia and also to install both interceptors and missile silos if needed for the former Soviet Union or now Iran. Germany has an army but is contempt with us there. We lend a huge hand to Germany and they lend a huge hand back. They also keep the EU intact because they are one of the richest countries because of the outcome of the Marshall plan made by the U.S. to help countries involved in WW2 to get back on they're feet all accepted but the Soviet Union and Soviet spheres of influence.

What? No. I said "Ivan". Here's a helpful illustration.

What? No. You do not know "useful fact for this topic". You fail at grammar, and have very little understanding of European politics and postwar West German history. I rather doubt you can tell me what the Marshall Plan was without using Wikipedia or Google.

It's fairly easy George Marshall thought of it because after WW1 and the Treaty of Versailles things went horribly and wrong and that treaty pretty much caused WW2 anyways he asked Congress to send money to all countries affected by the war and he sent out I think 20 billion dollars to the countries that accepted the offer (western Europe) which really is why Eastern Europe is so poor to this day is because they had to pay to rebuild they're own counties and because Communism didn't get much done, again the Marshall Plan helped so much for Germany because it was completely destroyed and they got up on they're feet again at least the West did and West Berlin and they got to making automobiles and other goods which is why they are such a rich nation today. Must I explain the rest of the Cold War for you or is this enough.

Too bad for them, it was always possible the troops would leave, I'd rather communities in the US to grow than ones overseas.
