What do you guys think of this?

I think Argentina should go away and let the Falklanders be British.

The Foreign Office should advise all British citizens to leave that place, cut off diplomatic and trade contacts, and beef up the RN presence around the islands, declare an exclusion zone, send the Astute class subs down there. Forget Libya, Iraq, and Afganistan, none of our concern, send the troops where they are needed.

why? we've got them, let them stew. all military preparations do is make us look belligerent and colonial, no harm in dusting off plans and mabye sticking a sub on patrol on the QT beyond that its a war of words. look at the protesters do you think any of them are going to be first off the landing craft? fair weather patriots. this is about as respectable as those anti-crusader muslim types protesting at wooton basset.

taking it seriously just makes it look like we feel pressured by these clowns (argentine government) and the mob.

The Falklands are with who they want to be with.

And the BBC article as well.

of far more concern than any other story to date is the american statement on the issue. by far the biggest threat to the falklands is hillary clinton or her successor deciding that the friendship of latin america is worth more than that of GB. the US taking a side in this has the potential to do far more damage than anything argentina can do.

Quite. On the other hand this wouldn't be an issue if the Empire had bothered to conquer Argentina...

Launch a preemptive strike. The very minor threat of Argentina must be stopped before it grows out of control.

Well, Argentina has a claim to the islands based on being a (and not the principle) successor state to a Spanish Empire that once visited in passing. All right, Britiain is a (and not the principle) successor to the Roman Empire, which also ruled over Spain. There's one obvious way to have the same flag flown over the islands and Argentina. I don't think Argentina will like it, but it's every bit as strong as their claim to the Falklands.

I strongly suspect that Argentina is a Tory propaganda mill. A strawman constructed to flail haplessly in Britannia's direction and then take a punch, but only when the blue lot are in power.

Hear hear! Leave those idiots alone. The Falkland Islands are more British than England is English, considering that the Falklands were left uninhabited. The residents even want to be British, which makes a nice change.

Why can't Argentina wrap its head around the fact that the British have a stronger historical claim than them and that the Falkland Islanders want to be British? The Falkland Islands will be apart of Britain as long as they want to be apart of it. End of discussion.

We've already withdrawn almost all of the troops. Unfortunately, they haven't taken the bait, which is a bit boring, or it's good news for the Treasury and the Argentinian military. On the other hand, because we haven't got any aircraft carriers, about all that we'd be able to do is obliterate all of their military by missiles. No chance of landing the army there. But then, who needs the army anyway? Much better to let the submarines destroy anyone that invades without our permission.
