Ohhhhh.....

Yeah, I guess not. :p

Just out of curiosity, why 'break' this story on a blog? That's going to make the credibility questionable. I know I'm questioning it.

Bloggers have been performing "citizen journalism" in light of the failure by our corporate media, and some of them have been doing an excellent job of it. Just because it's been scooped by a blogger doesn't invalidate the information, but it does beg for independent verification. If all the news sites are simply basing their news off one source (like Drudge) then I think we can safely dismiss it as partisan bullshit.

I don't hold blog news in particularly high regard. That goes for all blog news. I'll wait for independent corroboration. *nod*

The people playing the sex worker and the congressman are obviously leading them into saying things that can sound questionable if taken out of context. The film is then edited to isolate those comments.

Probably for the same reason they're expected to fund Blackwater and Halliburton. ;)

Maybe because it defeats the purpose of a representative democracy if people don't vote? Of course, they can't vote if they're not registered, which is the purpose of ACORN in the first place: to get people registered among demographics that traditionally have low voter turnout.

ACORN has been vilified and misrepresented by the Right for some time now. Why are we supposed to take these accusations seriously?

Well, aiding child prostution isn't what ACORN's main activities are. What ACORN does - voter registration, etc., needs to go on and be funded.

Your eyes are not deceiving you: ACORN workers encouraged disguising the child prostitutes as “exchange students.” This, following numerous criminal cases pending against the group for voter fraud and other offenses. For example: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/09 ... d-charges/

ACORN has received millions in federal tax dollars to fund its activities, and is in line to receive millions more.

What should be done about ACORN?

Edit: corrected the link. Should work now. Also added a voter-fraud case link.

1. Although the videotape is clearly heavily edited, the conduct of the two ACORN staffers is indefensible. They should be fired.

2. ACORN has some 1,200 offices. The "filmmaker" allegedly shopped around to find staffers that acted inappropriately. It is utterly ridiculous to smear ACORN based on the actions of two staffers.

3. The voter fraud in question WAS REPORTED TO THE AUTHORITIES BY ACORN. Not part of some conspiracy by ACORN.

4. ACORN's activities are not funded by federal tax dollars. ACORN has never recieved direct aid from the federal government. A few times other organizations recieving federal funds have hired ACORN to perform specific services. These services, such as lead paint removal, have nothing to do with voter registration.

You mean signing up the Dallas Cowboys team to vote in Nevada? Or Mickey Mouse and Daffey Duck? Yes, I can see how CARTOON characters have low voter turnout. What, without this organization people do not realize that they are eligible to vote? Perhaps we should have compulsory voting like elsewhere? Again, I do not see why this organization should be taxpayer funded.
