US Marines and mistreatment of Taliban dead

I'm very disappointed and highly disgusted in the way these members of our military behaved, sadly though i am not surprised. There has been far too many of these sort of highly disrespectful attacks occurring during the past 10 years.
My main worry is that this is going to become yet another recruitment tool for terrorist to increase there forces with. As if the stories and photos of torture in Gitmo weren't enough to rally them already, but rest assured the thought of this video possibly being used in this way never even crossed the minds of the men involved when it was being shot.

It's old "There's no such thing as an ex-Marine." Sounds great when Clint Eastwood or Mark Harmon say it.

In my opinion, they make it sound like a bunch of flying fuck, and they demoralize it. The Marine Corps has been saying that for years before these guys were even born. It's not a saying, it's part of a lifestyle.

2) A sniper that is well hidden, blending in with his environment is nearly impossible to spot without IR or a muzzle flash.

This of course ignores any of a million other possible situations, and I will remind you that said sniper was not 'well hidden' in your initial hypothetical, clearly the sniper has also covered himself in ice and is at the back of the room, to hide his muzzle flash. Thus it doesn't matter at all and all our soldiers will be killed.

Go join the Military, THEN you can argue about that.

How many, exactly (or approximately)? People keep saying that but never provide any numbers. In the context of the numbers of military personnel that have been stationed in Afghanistan, how many? I would love to learn.

I know when I ask my father what he is, he says "fish hatchery advisor (talk about the most boring job ever...)" and not a Marine. Should I ask my brother, he'd say "automotive mechanic" and not a Marine.

No, I was arguing about the fact that on top of being disrespectful, what they did was really stupid for a number of reasons, including the fact that they left themselves open to the dead guys' bodies sneaking up on them.

People need to understand that this is a drop in the ocean compared to what the Taliban would do to American dead. With that understanding comes the fact that this is not a civilized war, where there are conventions and agreements and both sides take care of prisoners.

Everyone, and the media most of all, need to wake up, smell the harsh dawn, and start seeing the situation as it is. And NATO needs to read up on the Selous Scouts.

While this is bad, I don't think it is anywhere near as bad as the kidnapping and torture that the US has been involved in, secret prisons in Poland and other places, delivering prisoners to Egypt and Libya to be tortured in more brutal ways than waterboarding.

There just seems to be a lack of perspective.

Seriously, a handful of Marines mistreat dead Taliban bodies, and it makes OMG HUEG news? Do I need to resort to the "Look at what they do to us" argument, or point out the horrific crap most other countries are committing? It's sensationalist, and you're severely overreacting.

Now, don't think that I believe that pissing on dead bodies is remotely acceptable, and I do believe there should be some form of punishment for it. However, it's not "HOLY SHIT" worthy.
