I'm going to try make this as least bloggy as possible but I'm a pretty shy guy, nerdy, not very charismatic, with no understanding of women or really any social skill (I also find it extremely difficult to read body language and social cues so flirting is an alien concept), and zero sexual or relationship experience (well I've managed to go on a couple of "dates" before but they were total failures as the girls were just playing me the entire time, one date the girl tried her best to make it hell, and one other date no one even showed up) of any sort so I was wondering how exactly does someone get a girlfriend?

What makes some people unable to get a "mate" and others highly successful?

Also I was wondering how does someone go about dating and "asking someone out".

What were your dating experiences like?

How should I know...but "mate" really isn't the correct word for me. Sounds creepy, we're people not freakin' stud bulls and prize cattle.

Then again, if you have something in common with your date, then it would make things far more interesting.

Also I was wondering how does someone go about dating and "asking someone out".

I generally just say it casually.

This. Don't act like a fidgety 7 year old and you should be alright. Talk clearly, let her talk back(you know, like a conversation,) and ask her to lunch or something. But seriously, it's all a matter of finding someone who you can 'live with' in the end. the person could love you to pieces and have the best body this side of the universe, but if said girl is your political (etc.) antithesis, then you're not really going to work too well together.

You might go through an army of people before you find the right one, you might only go through one more, though what you said in the ex-Gay camp thread suggests that you should keep an open mind to any sex, if you say that you used to be homosexual, who knows? you might find the right guy instead of the right girl, just go with what seems right and see where it leads you. Keep a slightly sharper wit though, don't just throw yourself at every opportunity, male or female

I should think personally that dating should take place in something both parties find interesting or fun or whatnot. Shared interests are the way to go.

I think my stepdad's first date with my mom was to a Civil War re-enactment, for example.
