Additions to Mount Rushmore?

Postby Lancaster of Wessex » Sat Jan 07, 2012 6:15 pm

Well it's a Sat. evening and I'm bored, so here's a few stupid questions for y'all:

1). Should any presidents - if funding were available and it were geologically possible to do so - be added to the facade of Mount Rushmore?
2). If so, whom?
3). If not, why not?

Personally I'd think if that if anyone were to be added, it'd be FDR, although I'm sure neo-Cons would want Reagan's image plastered on there - if Reagan were placed, then add Clinton too. 8)

However, given the amount of partisanship that would arise from such a debate, I don't think anyone, not even FDR, should be added - America is and always will be forevermore too politcally polarized to honour anybody else.

And besides, if it ain't broken, don't fix it, and Mt. Rushmore is at least a symbol of America most everyone can enjoy and "agree with," so to speak.

What sayest thee and thou?

Your not supposed to change a landmark. It kinda defeats the purpose.

On top of that, do you know how it expensive it is to clean Lincoln's nose?

That's why I said "if funding were available." And if it's supposed to represent America's first period of history, why not those who have since contributed greatly? Maybe they should just make "another Mount Rushmore," instead of altering the present one.

All hypothetical of course. :)

Add a man who was going to be impeached and was likely guilty of crimes if he wasn't pardoned by Ford?

Why add a president? Mount Rushmore would be much more of a tourist attraction if they added my handsome visage to it.

Give the funding to the Crazy Horse memorial, if there is any. Mt. Rushmore at least looks finished.
This was formerly a signature. One day, it may return to its splendid past. In the meantime, enjoy some pictures of my cats.

Because no.

We don't need our monuments raped and screwed up. It already has THEODORE FUCKING ROOSEVELT on it.

The Crazy Horse Memorial is still not finished. Finish that, then do something else. Don't fuck up completed monuments...

Comparing Crazy Horse, a war leader of Oglala Lakota in the 19th century, to American Servicemen in the 20th century, doesn't really work.

Might want to tell a few states to tear down their fucking Confederate War Memorials then... unless you want to nudge the goalpost some more.
