I voted for upping taxes to beyond what poor people can afford. It's deliciously elitist, and will make sure that only attractive, successful people can drink it, thus making alcohol commercials true in their imagery.

Alcohol, like the rest of my good friends is not to be underestimated. :)

a "Drinkers" licence. complete with picture. treat it like any other licence. if you want to buy booze, you gotta show the licence, this includes bars and resturants.

a small fee to aquire a licence as well as a written test of local laws... and make it like a driver's licence in which you need to renew.

Violations, like DUI, and other drunken behavior can result in a suspension of the licence. repeated violations as well as alcohol abuse will result in revoking the licence.

They tried banning alcohol before.

Not only did it not work, but now we have two completely useless amendments in the constitution (one to ban alcohol, and one top render the other one null and void).

I think the correlation is not as great as some Puritans would like.

Sorry the image won't link properly

http://www.statcan.gc.ca/pub/85-561-m/2005005/figures/4053784-eng.htm

It shows the alcohol consumption rate to stay near flat while violent crime goes up-up and down again.

Alcohol and drug use in this source was found to be associated with ~50 % violent criminal acts. Though you got examine whether this is actual causation or a correlation of one self destructive behaviour with another. Other factors like education, family history, and the inflation rate are also correlated with violent criminal activity.

Alcohol, my permanent accessory
Alcohol, a party-time necessity
Alcohol, alternative to feeling like yourself
O Alcohol, I still drink to your health

I love you more than I did the week before
I discovered alcohol

Forget the cafe latte, screw the raspberry iced tea
A Malibu and Coke for you, a G&T for me
Alcohol, Your songs resolve like
my life never will
When someone else is picking up the bill

I love you more than I did the week before
I discovered alcohol
O Alcohol, would you please forgive me?
For while I cannot love myself
I'll use something else

I thought that Alcohol was just for those with
nothing else to do
I thought that drinking just to get drunk
was a waste of precious booze
But now I know that there's a time
and there's a place where I can choose
To walk the fine line between
self-control and self-abuse

I love you more than I did the week before
I discovered alcohol
Would you please ignore that you
found me on the floor
Trying on your camisole?
O Alcohol, would you please forgive me?
For while I cannot love myself
I'll use something else.

Would you please forgive me?

Sober drivers are not appreciably better. Make driving punishable by death instead.

While that's a good idea, I doubt organized crime makes money from operating driving schools. All right, so it doesn't make money from selling alcohol either because people can obtain alcohol legally, but THAT'S NOT THE POINT. D:<

It's not the alcohol, it's how that person really is at heart.

Alcohol just removes the inhibitions and lets their unsavory personality be aired for everyone to see. If someone's a dick when drinking, they're a dick when they're sober. You just don't see it because they're better at hiding it, and to be honest people who hide their violent, abusive nature are more likely to do something really terrible when completely sober because they've got complete control over what they do.

Any basis for your "percentage" or is it just a guess?

In any case, the answer should be obvious because it's emphasized so much... moderation is the key. As long as you don't get too drunk too often, and as long as you know what you're doing before you do it, you should be fine.

When I lived in France, we had a glass of wine every day at the dinner table. It's really piqued my refined taste in alcohol. And I never once binged on it (I don't really see how you can), and if you treated it with less of a taboo and made sure kids understood the consequences, alcoholism would shoot down.

You suppose so? Cause when I get really trashed, I'm pretty sure my lizard-brain takes over and I do some famously retarded shit and wake up remembering nothing but a vauge feeling of guilt and maybe a few more bruises then I had before.

I think sober folks have reservations when they speak and act normally, and alcohol loosens up their toungue and all, but drinking like, way more then that pretty much turns you into the lizard-brain version of yourself that is nothing but insanity and cop-punching.

Why I don't drink gin, in any case.

I don't care for it, and wouldn't bat an eyeleash if it were restricted or even outlawed. I don't think that's necessary, but I do feel that there should be strong restrictions based on whether or not a person has serious emotional/mental issues and violent tendencies.
Here's to the losers, bless them all.
