Keep an eye on that. If I recall the rise in GSt in NZ was a broken campaign promise.

What do you mean 'record'? If you mean % of GDP, then not even close. That honor belongs to WWII. Even the debt level in 2000 was higher.

My main beef with it is't it's size. It's that it was supposed to simplify the tax code, remove certain other taxes that weren't, and that John Howard said that there would never, ever be a GST under his government.
