All I can tell is that the senators are keeping Congress in session (likely costing us money...I mean, isn't this like...Legislature Over-Time or somethin'?) to try and prevent Obama from appointing a person to a bureau they don't control strongly enough, thus preventing the bureau from actually functioning.

So we're spending money in order to prevent something from running properly because it doesn't run the way they'd like it to run? Seems pretty inefficient to me.

Well?

Part of leadership means doing that. It's a start for him. But, I will wait for further examples before I get happy.

It isn't. The news is that the Republicans flipped out.

You-Gi-Owe wrote:The press seems much more sympathetic to recess appointments by Democratic Party Presidents than Republican Presidents.

However, I generally like it when a vacant and important position is filled by recess appointment, U.N. Ambassador, Appeals Court justice, or the like. This seems to me to be just another effing bureaucratic "czar".

Mhm... what problem do you have with it You-Gi-Owe? Your logic makes no sense.

He's filling a position because Congress wouldn't. What's wrong with that?

All Congresses get their panties in a wad over recess appointments. It's really not unexpected or new.

And if Congress wouldn't plop their family jewels under a poised guillotine, then you suppose the President ought to place his in the ready spot?

I don't quite follow that logic. Why shouldn't a position be filled because some old men are gibbering away for no reason?

Filling a government position?

Yeah, it should be done.

Seriously, do we need more paid government positions that allocate more taxpayer dollars? I really doubt it.

How about getting rid of some useless government postions? The Department of Energy, perhaps? The Department of Agriculture, too, perhaps?

It doesn't bypass the process when other people object because no matter what, the appointee is subject to congressional review once the appointment is made. What it does do is bypass the procedural equivalent of filibustering in which a group of congressmen decide to meet once every three days for a negligible amount of time in order to circumvent an entire section of the Constitution because the President won't let them make an entire federal department their bitch.
