His percent of the vote has increased at 16% reporting from 5% reporting. If that continues he could come in second (although at this point it looks unlikely).

(16% of precincts reporting)

Mitt Romney 12,036 35.3%
Ron Paul 8,422 24.7%
Jon Huntsman 5,977 17.5%
Newt Gingrich 3,545 10.4%
Rick Santorum 3,269 9.6%

Yeah...

Paul just got called for second. Also, Huntsman is not going to leave the race, the tv wants me to know.

Anyway, the Paul stuff is going to be unbearable for the next week with the second place finish. Apparently, the romance is quickly over with Santorum...

This could put Paul in a tie with Romney in terms of total delegates (rather than votes) since the last primary was a three way tie, if Paul can get close enough to Romney it won't matter if Romney got more votes. Only that Paul get's the same number of delegates.

On a totally unrelated note, I really like how OTHER has a higher percent of the vote than Perry or Bachmann. If the percents remain it could be enough to make them shut up and stop polluting the airwaves with their obscene viewpoints.

18% of precincts reporting)
Mitt Romney 13,146 35.5%
Ron Paul 9,071 24.5%
Jon Huntsman 6,385 17.2%
Newt Gingrich 3,892 10.5%
Rick Santorum 3,631 9.8%
Rick Perry 251 0.7%
Michele Bachmann 56 0.2%

Other 594 1.6%

Bachmann already backed out, though, so she's done and apparently knows it. Perry got the message, couldn't make it out, and half-assedly powered ahead.

Romney's separating from Paul, and Paul is separating from Cuntsman, as the poll results come in.

There is a really nice live interactive map here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/01/1 ... 95374.html

Right now every county is putting Romney at #1 with Paul at #2 with the exception of Sullivan County which places Romney at #1 and Huntsman at #2 (paul at #3)

Yeah at this point there is really no question that Romney will be in first place. Paul has a very high chance of scoring second and huntsman has a high chance of scoring #3. If this pattern continues in South Carolina it will basically only be a contest between Ron Paul and Romney.

he did like 5 minutes on the federal reserve and 'phony money'. though now he's moved on to getting his crowd to chant 'bring them home!' while talking about cutting military spending. is...deeply weird to me, since these are nominally people in the warmonger party.

Careful, if he's a gin'd up grandfather it means he comes from the generation where its OK to hit yung uns' with his belt to prove a point
And, knowing Ron Paul, it'd be a GOOOOOOOOOLD belt! :p

This is why I like Ron Paul, he's got real beliefs, that he really stands for. :)

Not that I agree, but...

Unfortunately you are incorrect. He's incoherent and unstatesmanlike in every sense, and his supporters are too grating to live. Anyone who does not realise this before attempting to run for office is insane.

I think he's pretty coherent although he rants about stuff that probably a lot of regular people don't give a shit about.

It's an asshole hat trick. I'm angrily impressed.

Really! States should have the right to decide whether or not their residents can use birth control, or to enact voter ID and registration rules than defeat the purpose of Federal Election Law (and, in the case of the the right of first-time voters to participate in the electoral system, the 26th Amendment), but States don't have the right to decide whether businesses and unions have the right to enter into closed shop contracts?!?

WTF?!?

States' rights, my ass. Anyone who believes that there should be a Nation Right-to-Work law has no god-damned right calling themselves a States' rights advocate - period.
