Blasphemy. Leonard Cohen is God.

I mean, he's Jewish, right? ;)

Like I said, depressing.

So, in order to defeat the conservatives, we need to hit single digits, zero or even negative approval rating, make the government completely and utterly shut down and have some kind of revolution in order to end this crazyness?

Things must be bad indeed if the only solution is to do the same thing as the republicans are doing. Hopefully the republican party implodes before we have to do that drastic of an action.

i hate "hallelujah" its the worst best song ever. cohen's version is unlistenable. i cant even guess what people like about it.

I dunno about that. I saw him in concert here a few years ago now, and even in his advancing age he's a hell of a performer. Excellent stuff, really.

It was the same tour that gave us the recent Live in London album/DVD, if that's the one.

All Odds Aside, G.O.P. Girding for Floor Fight

Well ... shucks ...

CHICAGO — For the first time in a generation, Republicans are preparing for the possibility that their presidential nomination could be decided at their national convention rather than on the campaign trail, a prospect that would upend one of the rituals of modern politics.

The race remains Mitt Romney’s to lose, and if he continues to accumulate delegates at a steady clip starting with contests in Puerto Rico on Sunday and Illinois on Tuesday, he has a good chance of amassing the 1,144 necessary to secure the nomination before the last primary, in Utah on June 26. But as he struggles to win the hearts of conservative voters and hold off a challenge from Rick Santorum, party leaders, activists and the campaigns are for the first time taking seriously the possibility that neither he nor anyone else will get to that total.

Link to the rest ...

I rather like a bit of uncertainty. Otherwise we have to sit through all the hype and bullshit for nothing.

the republican base isnt much interested in getting in line this year.

if mitt romney doesnt get 1144 delegates before the convention he also wont have won a majority of votes in the primaries either--a plurality but not a majority.

can a nominee who didnt get 50% of his own party get 51% of the general voting public?

they may want to dump romney but santorum and gingrich are out of the question. the republican elite hate both men. if any of the other big guns of the party had wanted to run and had thought they had a chance of winning they would already be in the running.

im still hoping for sarah palin but it is far too much work for her for far too little money.
whatever

Well Romney will certainly win here, even though Frothy's trying to stir up Downstate Conservatives. I think now that Romney's going to wind this up, and Texas will be his Coronation. If however Santorum wins there.......

I dunno man. Downstate will turn out to vote. Not sure if suburbia will. It's supposed to be high 70s and sunny, though, so that should boost turnout.

Aye. We like to forget that anything south of Peoria exists until they decide to fuck us come election times with low turnout elsewhere.

I am indeed referring to Illinois. As for Tomorrow, I think Frothy made a HUGE mistake in saying Puerto Ricans needed to speak English, and I won't be surprised if Mittens crosses the 50% threshold.

Youre right, Puerto Rico is tomorrow, the Missouri one was today, somehow misread that the Missouri one was tomorrow. We already know the 'winner' of that caucas anyways.

I love how they keep referring to the possibility of an open convention as a "floor fight", keeps making me flash back to this or this. We can dream, can't we?
