That'd be Scotland you're thinking of. Very people people here wear tartans.

implying ireland doesn't have tartans or implying that more than very few people in scotland wear tartans

I never said Ireland didn't have tartans. I meant to say very few people here, i.e. in Ireland where I live, wear tartans. It's more a Scottish thing.

Not that people would purchase images.

Most of the con-job is them selling swords, shields, "family histories", and banners that have your "Family Crest" emblazoned on them. It's a nice little conversation device for the misinformed that they charge way too much for. Most of it is mechanically mass-manufactured for a fraction of the cost they sell it to you at.

Also, I'm not bashing this so much as adding an educational light. I said nothing to insult any of you for taking an interest in your personal histories, I just merely wanted to prevent you from being duped by ill-meaning trinket sellers. I'd be pleased as plum to hear some of you actually recieved a legitimate crest.

Granted, it's a shady enterprise, but in my family, the crest, clan tartan and coat of arms have been common knowledge handed down for generations. We're sort of obsessive compulsive about that sort ofthing - not to mention we spend a lot of time living in the past.

So, implying that more than very few people in Scotland wear tartans then~

No. More people in Scotland wear tartans than people than Ireland. I don't know how many people in Scotland wear tartans but it's a lot more common than you'd see in Ireland.

I'm not sure what you're trying to get at here. I was correcting another poster. The whole "clan tartan" thing, which he was referring to, is a Scottish tradition, not Irish.

Well then, you have a wealth of knowledge that most lack. I'm from two families that vanish into thin air roughly 3 generations back, as if we were born of the earth. Any legacy that I pass on is pretty much "history" to my offspring and their future offspring.
