For some reason I always think that he wrote "Chariots of the Gods" and then did nothing else. It happens every time he comes up. And then I look him up and learn that he is not in fact dead.

Nah, we just have better things to do with our time. According to Wakipedia -- since this isn't important enough to find better sources -- both the Hoover Dam and the Great Pyramid contain roughly the same volume of rock, about 2.5M m^3. I'd much rather have a dam providing electricity and a stable water supply than a pile of rocks memorializing some guy's self-importance.

The Hubble telescope routinely takes amazing pictures; we have one probe orbiting Saturn (Cassini) and another orbiting an asteroid (Dawn); we're finding planets in other f'ing solar systems, and we have robots en route to Mars and Pluto. Damn, that's pretty amazing to me.

In medicine, we talk about exterminating diseases (AIDS, Guinea worm), not just treating them. Some cancers have gone from being a death sentence to merely being expensive to treat. We routinely transplant body parts, even faces. Not amazing enough??
