I'm pretty sure the real thing is supposed to be made with Wormwood which is supposedly where the hallucinogenic properties come from. Though I think it's still illegal to make it properly in many countries.

Well yes it is made with wormwood, but one of the other major herbs used is anise. Absinthe isn't hallucinogenic, that was a myth that's been thoroughly disproved. I'm pretty sure it's widely available now, made just as properly as it ever was.
