SOPA could drive the internet firms overseas to avoid the flawed legislation, and it would be a shame to have the US lose its long established position as the leader of the internet, because they were the pioneer of the internet.

Commie, why do you want to leave the bastion of Freedom and DemocracyTM that is the United States? You wouldn't want to do that unless you were a radical, dangerous America-hater... and we all know America-hating is just one step away from terrorism... You need to be arrested, you're a possible terrorist!

Who was the one who voted for this?

Anyway, this is a very stupid bill. Screw anyone who actually supports this bill.

What's worse, they could then use that to implement a court order banning them from using a computer just for posting pirate URLs. It's easy to post a URL now that it will give Google and Facebook an instant knock-down.

Most of our "rulers" probably don't even understand what a URL is. That's why they can make bad laws about what they don't understand.

Bad idea... baaaaaad idea. All it will do is drive many of our hosting companies, cloud services companies and the like overseas. There is also a concern with the related PIP with its impact on DNS security. Key authors of the RFC's related to DNS have pointed out that the redirection imposed with PIP are incompatible with DNS security extensions and would undermine the reliability and interoperability of the DNS system as used by private, military and government agencies.
Such heroic nonsense!

SOPA = States Oppressing Peoples' Agency

Censorship Level 100.
Douchebag Level 10000^10000

The great thing is that there are loop holes through this law. We have the simpler version implemented in NZ and its easy. We tested SOPA out for America and while its as bad a law as can get, its easy to get around. Don't worry too much about it, but please fight it as long as you can. It will sadly, inevitably pass. But the great thing is, 2012 is an election year. Elect out ALL incumbents who supported the bill. They are elected to uphold America's value of freedom, how ironic of them to support SOPA, a bill that makes the US become more oppressive.

There are a lot of American things that I love, that I simply cannot get in NZ without the aid of streaming. This makes sites like Justin.tv illegal. I need that for my Football and Hockey. Bring on a new year of freedom and destroy SOPA mercilessly!

Excuse me, sir. Seeing as how the V.P. is such a V.I.P., shouldn't we keep the P.C. on the Q.T.? 'Cause if it leaks to the V.C. he could end up M.I.A., and then we'd all be put out in K.P.

Hey US Government, the Internet is known as the WORLD WIDE web, for a reason, and you don't have international internet jurisdiction. This bill is therefore pointless except as an attempt to oppress us.

It only has the power to regulate US-based servers, but since we all use those sites, it affects the rest of us too, even though we have no say in it.

And then the servers will just move. The bill will be pointless, unless the corruption in our government spreads throughout the rest of the world as well. At least, pointless in the long run.

It's also ridiculously easy to get around if you want to pirate stuff. All it does is give the entertainment industry undue power over its competition.

It also creates a massive issue related to DNSSEC which could potentially effect and compromise computer which use that to verify DNS records for security reason (including military and government systems). It's basically politicians who don't know shit about how things work getting in bed with corporate goons who also don't know how this shit works and passing laws that allow them to fuck over other people without considering of the broader implications. Frankly, no serious internet/IT person supports this shit.
