What I should have said was, unless you work in the corrections industry, or the music recording industry, or are being paid a lot of money to support this bill, I can't see why any American would support it.
However, why is it impossible that someone here on NS supports SOPA? Not for the sake of trolling, but genuinely.
Maybe we have members who are prison guards, or who work for contractors that build prisons. SOPA will create more work for them, if it's passed. Many of these people have vehemently opposed efforts to decriminalize drugs, which makes a lot of sense when you consider how the War on Drugs has fueled the growth of our prison population.
We could have members who are recording artists, or who work for the music industry. They could argue that SOPA will protect income they have a right to.
Some lawyers might also support SOPA. It's understandable, that some would; again, it's their livelihood. I'd be very surprised if we don't have some lawyers here among us. My country, for one, certainly doesn't suffer from a shortage of lawyers.

That original SOPA thread that got mentioned was started by me and its been something I've been working against (to the best of my ability) since I heard about it. I've written letters, signed petitions, and even made phone calls to keep this bill from becoming law. The only one I heard back from is Bob Casey who has people sending me updates. (No I don't think I'm the only one that its being done for I'm just pointing out that Senator Casey does a great job with working with the public)

Thanks for being awesome and doing something besides just posting on internet forums :)

Thank you. I've actually posted petitions and stuff in political threads before but nobody appreciated it so I just kept it up privately.

Commie, why do you want to leave the bastion of Freedom and DemocracyTM that is the United States? You wouldn't want to do that unless you were a radical, dangerous America-hater... and we all know America-hating is just one step away from terrorism... You need to be arrested, you're a possible terrorist!

SOPA will destroy the internet. It will take away one of the peoples last places to openly voice whatever they think and it brings us another step towards tyranny.

Well, most Marxists reside in the PRC or something.

Europe is fairly capitalist, but fairly lacking protected free speech against government meddling.

The whole UK Internet Censorship thing, and I believe France has a similar system in place.

Anyway, if SOPA passes, everyone will join the Al-Qaeda and help them to drop a nuke on Washington DC.

I have read a lot of reactions regarding this matter in other forums. Some were against SOPA and there are also some who are pro-SOPA. I cannot blame anybody (except the one who created the sites) for doing this act because dishonestly obtained products are widely available online. It is really difficult to remove it and I know there are a lot of people who patronize this kind of downloading (most especially songs) because of the fact that it is free and affordable. SOPA bill is intended to make these materials less obtainable, a fact that customers of the Congressional web connection appear to be reacting to by downloading more unlawful material. It is meant to make copyright protections in the United States better, but there are several opponents of the bill. Some of these opponents have found that Congressional online connections have been used to download illegally acquired products.Resource for this article: Congress supports SOPA while illegally downloading self-help books
Anything that we acquired free which is not supposed to be is not right but when we look at other hand, it still has an advantage because it helps the artist be known for her/ his music because it spreads easily due to this downloading sites, isn't it? And if ever this bill will be approved, they should also keep an eye with their people in the government, then it will be fair for everyone. But for me, I don't want this law.
