Ronald Reagan belongs on this list if policies are your basis. From where I stand, his platform (and emulation of it abroad) is directly responsible for the lion's share of mess the world economy is in at the moment. He was, however, one of the greatest if your basis is how many people he got to go along with it.

Andrew Jackson is unequivocally guilty of genocide against the Cherokee people as well as being a proponent of terrible monetary policy and so belongs on this list, but, like Reagan, only if policies are your basis.

Nero was awful on both bases.

Barack Obama's self-given authority to order the assassination of any US citizen anywhere in the world earns him a spot on my list on policy grounds. Throw Congress in with him for authorizing an option to turn the entire country into a giant Gitmo.

I read in a book lying around the house that Pope John XII (r.955-964) was murdered upon being caught illicitly exchanging carnal knowledge with his killer's wife. He lands on my list on grounds of piss-poor judgment. :p

The worst leaders are those that have had negative affects on multiple countries. I do not think that genocidal madmen belong on such a list, that includes Hitler, for their genocidal acts as the current financial instability will negatively impact far more people than anyone one regime could ever hope to do. Therefore the people responsible for the mess are the worst leaders. I would list them but I honestly don't know which are the most responsible. Perhaps Hitler, as his actions resulted in a stronger USSR, UN, USA and the formation of countless other organisations that ultimately tied the economies of the world closer together.

Nero's overrated as a bad leader tbh. Elagabalus and Commodus were pretty bad, the latter especially for ending the incredibly competent Nerva-Antonine dynasty.

The end of the Good Emperors was less Commodus' fault and more Marcus' for making his son co-emperor and heir. The whole point of the succession had been finding the best person, not defaulting to your family.

I agree, Nero is credited to having improved Rome Subura streets which were susceptible to fires and tried to educate the populous in the arts (to a certain extent). Caligula was apparentley quite nice for the first few months, he just turned pretty nasty after a while. Elagabalus just had a sick sense of humour and was slightly delusional and Commodus was just incompetent. I actually think Honorius should be included, despite the fact that he tried to maintain the Western Roman Empire he ultimately failed.

The worst leader in world history would probably be some guy you've never heard of because if you've heard of a leader or they're in a history book, they obviously has a good deal of leadership success.

My list stands for the worst leaders in history as the thread title states.
No where on there did it state the people had to lead a nation at all.
So that's why I put the people I put.
