I'll say it was stupid of us from Argentina to start the Falklands War.

The NATO-led war on Muammar Gaddafi's Libya. It will only lead to islamists seizing power and destabilizing the world further.

All wars are pretty stupid, because at the end, everyone has lost. Not just lives. They've lost their right to live as soon as they started taking other people's right to live.

To those saying the Children's Crusade, bear in mind that there was no fighting persay, only capture of the Boy priests and many of their followers by Turkish slavers.

Yes, but that's because further governments dismantled our military and now we can't even guard our own airspace. Although the military junta started it by going against a superior enemy for a makeshift pointless cause.

Edit: My point is that our current deficient military condition started after a stupid decision like going to war with the UK over a cause completely unjustified (as I think I stated in said Falklands thread).

You need to go back to school and pay attention in class this time, so that you actually learn some history, if you think the Spanish-American War was an accident, the ARW was about tea stamps, and the Quasi-War was a raspberry to France.

The American Revolution was fought to enable American merchants the ability to not only sell commodities to any buyer they wanted, but also to produce finished goods for sale at profit to any buyer they wanted. The first point had been largely done until about 1715 when Britain cracked down on the under ground trade with other nations, particularly the Dutch Republic. A lot of money was up for grabs from the American merchant class, and mercantilism stood in their way. So they made up a lot of nonsense about their rights being infringed and over taxation (to provide security the colonists wanted from France, yet didn't want to have to pay for) to whip the people into a frenzy. It was basically the world's first capitalist revolution.

The Sinking of the Maine WAS AN ACCIDENT. The American Revolutions was for a few proclamations and taxes which limited American rights but a little (still they had far less taxes and more rights than say, Liverpool, which, guess what? DIDN'T HAVE REPRESENTATION IN PARLIAMENT EITHER). And the Quasi-War started because of CARGO SEIZING, which wouldn't cause a war in any civilized nation.

Also, you entirely fail to grasp what I said.

So you'd rather Europe was overun by the still going USSR at the moment. If USA hadn't intervened when they did then the Soviet union would have defeated germany and just kept on going.

How was the Korean War stupid? The North Koreans invaded the South in order to incorporate them into a Soviet-allied communist state. The people in the South objected and the US, plus a bunch of other countries, sided with them.

You know most of that account is fictional.
The involvement of children was also exaggerated, due to a mistranslation of Latin text, boy was used as a slang term to refer to landless rabble, not so much to refer to the age of the people involved.

The First World War is the most needless major war to have occurred.

But I'll take the Chaco War as at least among the stupidest ever. It effectively was a desperate attempt between Bolivia and Paraguay to avoid being the "losers" of South America. It was an entirely-too-long, proportionally-devastating war over a strategically and economically worthless region.

Ah, but the War of the Triple Alliance, fought from 1864 to 1870, was far and away bloodier and more devastating. A huge percentage of the Paraguayan population died, Brazil's economy was shaken and her military became a political force, which had consequences right down into the 20th century.

EDIT: Oops, ninja'd...
How about the 'War of the Triple Alliance', back in the 19th century: That also had Paraguay as one of the sides, but in that incident their dictator thought that it would be a good idea to go to war simultaneously with Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay... According to some accounts it's estimated that Paraguay lost somewhere around 90% of its adult males in the fighting...

If you look at it just right, they were the same war with a 25 year break in the middle.
