No, it isn't.

Let's not derail this into yet another discussion of your sexuality, 4ST. Please.

Additionally, a refutation really requires more to it than "Is not!" - though Trotskylvania's own refutation is no more clean in this regard than your refutation of his refutation. In future, please tell us why you disagree with a given statement, folks.

I hardly consider the continued observance of a reactionary tradition harkening to the days when a daughter was the property of her father to be in anyway "honorable".

She lives at home she is technically property. But that is beside the point.

The girl has basically given permission. It's a big thing to the father to see his "little girl" be married to somebody else. You hope you raised her right to pick to decent guy and the fact he still asks is honorable.

This is why gay marriage will destroy American families.
Gays are made up of gaytrinos and they interact via faggons, which are massless spin 2 particles. They're massless because gays care so much about their weight, and have spin 2, cause that's as much spin as particles can get, and liberals love spin. The exchange of spin 2 particles creates an attractive force between objects, which is why gays are so promiscuous. When gays get "settle down" into a lower energy state by marrying, they release faggon particles in the form of gaydiation. Everyone is a little bit gay, so every human body has some gaytrinos in it, meaning that the gaydiation could cause straight people to be attracted to gays and choose to turn gay.

It took my father 5 years to warm up to my hubby. At first he was like "oh noes my babeh gunnah get corrupted" and I was like "fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu teen rebellion" then it was all like "fuuuuuuuuuuuuuu I'm moving' out" and then he was like "fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck alright compromise" and now everything is alright.

It is not his life to live. He has no right to participate in this decision without the daughter inviting his opinion. For the father to expect them to ask for his approval of his "little girl's" mate is to deny the personhood of his daughter.

It's really not helpful to be so paranoid. If you're dating a girl and she's worried about what her dad thinks, then you have a reason to be concerned; but otherwise you're just making things more nerve-wracking than they need to be. If it seems like a guy is more concerned about my dad's opinion than mine, that causes problems in the relationship.

Ladies, do your dads chase away would-be boyfriends, or did they chase away would-be boyfriends when you were younger?

I asked the father but i never viewed it as actually asking, I always thought it was more of a courtesy thing. I ask him if i can date his daughter to let him know he might want to knock before going into his daughter's room if he gets off early from work.

Also, it is a guy thing we can tell and feel annoyed when another male presence has been our home. Once we know who the presence is and why they are it is less of an issue.

Well, as a guy, I think it is appropriate to be on good terms with one's lover's/lovers' parents. I hope that both my parents approve of any girl I date, as well as, the girl's parents approve of me. My ex sought the approval of my parents to date me, and I, of hers. From what I gather, her parents thought I was wonderful, but her mother would've quickly hated my guts the moment she found out her little girl was dating a socialist, and her father would've left the room for a beer- he would want to stay out of it... and my ex would've joined her dad!

Anyhow, my parents approved of her, but she was never comfortable around them. If you can't accept my parents and you can't accept my faith, then you, obviously, can't accept me!

Seriously, it's getting annoying that this is the third time action has to be taken to stop this from being threadjack'ed into talking about 4ST's viewpoints regarding sexuality.

Let's not go there again because next time I'm not going to just split off posts, I'll start in on posters.

I actually have to agree with the OP on this one.
To be fair I do think that the PARENTS (not just the father) should have a say who their daughter dates when she is still a minor.
But if she is an adult then it's neither one of their businesses.

If my daughter is 18 and wants to go to a party with some friends, I'd give her a taser as a late birthday present and say "have a good time"

If I end up being the one to propose to my girlfriend, I kind of want to ask her parents for their blessing. Not permission, just blessing. The thing is, while her step-dad seems fairly cool with me (tolerant at least), she's had next to no contact with her dad and I'm sure her mom hates me because not only is she my girlfriend, but I'm her girlfriend. I've corrupted her little girl, or something.

Well, I'm a guy, I have a girlfriend, and I've asked her if it was cool. Since i've proved to be a trustworthy, protective guy, I guess it would be okay.

If you have a girlfriend who freaks out over little things a lot, asking questions that about her families consent wouldn't be the best thing. If the girl has better things to be mad about, you can ask, but it might annoy her, just pick the right time to ask.

Edit: Bloody spelling mistakes.
