40K or Cthulhu Mythos?

From something of a threadjack in the anime thread, which would you prefer to live in? The Warhammer 40K universe, or the universe of the Cthulhu Mythos?

Cthulhu Mythos for me, since most people aren't affected by the machinations of the Elder Gods, not that they'd care if we were. It's basically "Our Universe, but with Things That Man Was Not Meant To Know somewhere sometime out there."

Cthulhu Mythos for the reasons that you gave as in the lovecraftian world is basically our own world, but with hidden monstrosities that when risen will kill us all. While, 40k and Warhammer has these same hidden monstrosities, but with us forced to live in hellish fascist-Nazi-Communist-religious fundamentalist state.

My base hatred for the Call of Cthulhu RPG and the type of people who love it in the roleplay community forces me to quote Dawn of War at you

I don't play the Call of Cthulhu RPG because it suffers from the delusion that having anything to do with the mythos is something any sane person would do. As soon as the game starts, your character should take a 1d100+100 hit to their SAN score.

40K suffers from personal understatement and universal melodrama. It's entertaining as satire, but it's hardly a serious work.

To actually answer the question. the Horus Heresy era of the 40k series is quite interesting, and I quite like the metaplot. Unfortunately, the actual setting of the game has none of it's dynamism or interest, and the whole game is stuck in a rut of trying to be as ridiculously grimdark as possible, to the point of retconning their own mythos to make things more grimdark. (Case-in-point: don't bring up Olanius Pius on a 40k forum and expect to live through the Internet Backdraft).

Death while in the thralls of chaos means an eternity of having your soul violated by one of the Chaos Gods.

And succumbing to Chaos might as well be death, because when it gets its claws on you, it utterly destroys all traces of who you are.

It's not just that their armor is huge. It's that they are huge mutant monstrosities. This is what a space marine looks like without his armor, compared to normies:

That's much less silly than the ones I usually see. I like that the hands and shoulders are a fairly reasonable size, and the helmet helps.
