Embrace who you are, what you are, and what you can be. Throw off the shackles of shame, refuse self-loathing, refuse misandry, refuse misogyny, refuse misanthropy, instead, love what you are. (I like the second symbol (chi rho) better its the original symbol Christians used to symbolize themselves)

Are we to take their prohibitions on homosexuality, pre-marital sex, women serving as clergy and so on as sensible?

Several branches of christianity defy what you have stated to be their taboos. The Episcopaleans have an openly gay bishop(or two or three), Methodists and Presbyterians(to name two) have no requirements for the gender of their clergy, and while many churches frown on premarital sex, it is by no means to the level of say, a muslim eating pork.
Catholics are actually the worst offenders on the list in terms of the three issues you have mentioned, but they are not by any means the whole of christianity.

I'm aware, but that doesn't answer my question.

I'm not attempting to. I'm pointing out that you really have no question. Attempting to lump all of Christianity under one umbrella of beliefs just doesn't work, which renders your question invalid. Christianity cannot be taken as a whole, and to say that it has these taboos is somewhat intellectually dishonest.

I hardly think it's necessary to specify that I'm talking about the branches of Christianity that do prohibit the things I mentioned. I would think it is self-evident.

With those qualifications in mind, I'm totally respectful of, and open-minded towards, all beliefs, including Christianity. However, relative to my past and current worldviews, Christianity (like the vast majority of religions) has always seemed like complete nonsense. I've never been remotely tempted towards any religion.
I was raised in a largely non-religious household - religion only really came up during Christmas, Easter, etc. My dad's an atheist and my mum's an atheist who sometimes calls herself Christian because she "believes in belief": she thinks religion is a positive thing and likes the community aspects of it. At my primary school I was exposed to religion quite a lot more, especially Christianity. They brought in Christian speakers, we had to sing Christian songs, Christian stories were occasionally taught as fact. I never took any of it seriously, though - it didn't make any sense to me, when I asked for clarifications the responses muddied the waters further. As a kid I enjoyed reading books and watching tv shows about things like space, dinosaurs, ancient history, etc, and Christianity never seemed relevant to or even compatible with what I learnt from those things.

... because Christianity is the only religion with multiple branches.
