Although it was a lot more soulcrushing than that, but you get the idea.

I was out of work for a year some years ago and I didn't even have to provide evidence. All I had to do was say I had looked and they'd sign it off. Luckily I got put with one of the jobcenter workers who gave a crap, she'd got me a work experience job with an engineering firm, I work for free for a month and five years later I'm still there but some of them just don't care..

That's hardcore.

Being at an engineering firm sounds like so much better than the place I work at.

EDIT:

From a different forum:
I know it's several months late but..

She needs a new 60 million pound yacht not an alternative voting system.

The Daily Mail for once came up with a nice idea a while back: a new royal yacht funded by private donations. Makes much more sense than Gove's "let's pour taxpayers' money down the drain" idea. Her Majesty gets a fitting tribute to her long years of service, the public don't pay a dime, the yacht provides other services for our nation and British businesses get a boost. And let's remember, it is far, far cheaper than, say, a private jet, not to mention more magnificent and environmentally friendly. This fervently royalist environmentalist is definitely in favour.

thats actually more or less exactly what is happening, gove was suggesting public funds be donated to it. a not totally unreasonable suggestion given the calls for government policy on supporting charities to be reversed. he picked the wrong charity thats all, if he'd said 60 million to go to help4heroes people would see it in a different light. its by far not the stupidest idea that he's ever voiced.

but to be clear, it is a stupid idea.

Nah.

They just sort of told me to look around in general on the JOB POINTS (they love those things) and in various other places such as internet, newspapers, ect. Since then I've been told that I should be basically going door-to-door with my CV asking for work because apparantly places looking for new employees most of the time don't advertise, in their own words.

Jesus Christ. I can understand why going round businesses asking for jobs would be a good idea, but for a service that is meant to be helping jobseekers find work to not actually tell its jobseekers how to find work (let alone what one has to do to keep the dole) is bloody ridiculous. I suppose they don't give any information on how to start a business of one's own, either.

According to the figures spouted to a friend of mine at the induction lecture for one of the privatised dole disposal firms, 4% of jobs are found via jobcenters, and 20-30 through newspapers, 30% plus are via contacts, friends in the know etc., and cold calling is a waste of time, indeed many places refuse to accept CV's from cold calling visitors, you have to send them via post or email to the HR dept at head office, who promptly bin them.

Yeah, engineering companies are pretty good, generally. Tend to train you quite well so you can relatively easily end up earning a reasonable amount.

In the 15th Century, we were known as the most foul mouthed race in Christendom, a not uncommon nickname for us was "Goddams".
"Fuck" is related to the German "Fick", and made it's first appearance in English literature in the early 1500's.

Yeah we use it a lot, it's so useful...

"Fuck" is not a word. It is the most versatile punctuation mark in the English language.

Hi. I have a question for y'all...
The UK is part of the EU (even though it decided to keep the Pound).
Do any of you support an economic union of Europe? Do any of you think that it could've worked if it was handled better?

No, and probably not. The economies are too different for a single policy to suit all and the entire thing seemed driven more by ideology than practical assessment.
