What's dull about England? What would you like better about the US?

Whether, culture, food, people.

As for what I would like better, all of the above, apart from people, that would depend on the state.

North of Gloucester or east of Wiltshire...

There is somewhat fringe academic (whose name I forget) who put forth the idea that the West Country dialect is a suvivor of a courtly Anglo-Saxon language, used by Alfred the Great and his nobles and so on.

I don't really agree with it, but it is an amusing thing to trot out. Honestly, it sounds like just an attempt to "prove" that London isn't the centre of all.

Well at least the largest city is the Capital as opposed to just a city with 25-ish% of the total population.

Also, I would dispute that no displacement of the lower classes happened when the Angles and Saxons and whatnot came over, although this is possibly not the claim, the basic spear types would have intermingled.

I'm not honestly sure what you're getting at, so I refer you to my earlier post.

I'm not sure myself anymore.

But, the people of Auckland suffer because Auckland is so large and it isn't the capital. Be thankful Londoners that this is not the case for you.

It did have a really good cheese shop in an alley off the main high street, last time I was there, bought a couple of waxed truckles of really wonderful extra mature cheddar, and a bottle of Elderflower champagne...
