What, people being proud of their country and saying thank you to someone who has spent her life working hard for their benefit? Oh, yes, disgusting. Gratitude is, like, so last century.

yep two words sure is ranting

i wouldn't really devote the energy to ranting about the current head of an inbred family of upperclass english people who will be dead in about 10 years time

seriously though i'm the politest cunt you'll ever meet on the street.

cry me a fucking river.

let's see her work an office for 8 hours, deal with smackheads and domestic abusers, work from 7 in the evening to 6 in the morning with the dying, putting out a fire and then i'll thank her

we, unlike the bourgeoisie, have nothing to lose and therefore our expression will be the only honest one, our words will be the only challenging ones and our art will be the one revolutionary expression. We need new noise and new voices and new canvases to become something more than the last poets of a useless generation.

They're not inbred. That's just propaganda. If you look at the Royal Family's family tree it's very clear that they're not inbred.

Then I presume this hypothetical street is full of people who can't spell 'manners' let alone know what it means?

Seriously, don't go around spouting nonsense. These are just the same tired old republican arguments, oh, the Queen is a parasite, the Queen is inbred, the Queen doesn't do any real work. Many of the Royal Family have served in the military, and the Queen herself has a large number of appointments each year as well as a great deal of paperwork to go through. Then there's the charity work they do, and all the travelling- think it sounds fun, huh? Spending a week in Jamaica isn't quite so exciting when you spend the whole time visiting schools and hospitals and making speeches and talking to people and are on the move for hours a day, especially when you're in your 80s. The Queen works as hard as any banker or politician, and probably harder than many ordinary people.

Typical backwards Bristol. This kind of shit has been happening for ages, in America and I'm sure in other parts of the country.

Get out.

Nah, in fairness, it doesn't have the poisonous touch of Bristol City Council, which it is why it's a step forward.

That illlustrious body, no matter who is in charge, seems to kill anything that it touches.

I kind of don't agree with the monarchy on principle, if that counts for anything.

I don't really mind them, though.

if you think the royal family serve in the military proper you're loony

Finding the gushing pathetic whilst secretly respecting the dignity of the monarchy is oh so British.

From an empirical perspective, I find it highly unlikely that the money spent on the royal family outweighs the additional tourist income brought in by the institution (not to mention the unquantifiable historical / prestigious / diplomatic value the monarchy holds).

No one really knows because the national audit office isn't allowed to audit the royal household. That's the royal household's job.

Unless they are bringing in a couple of hundred million pounds net in this economic climate, I'd gladly forego the profit as a price to pay to abrogate everything that they illustrate and stand for.
