Do you mean debt and then the dole, or just the dole?

One cannot claim jobseekers when in full-time education - you could claim jobseekers when in part-time education but you have to be looking for full-time work which is 16-hours or over, which would possibly interfere with the education in the first place.

He means going to uni, getting in debt and then ending up on the dole because there are no jobs.

As opposed to just going on the dole without going to uni.

I bet there's still jobs for graduates.

I'll probably do Undergraduate, desperately struggle to work for two years, then do a Master's and then finally get a decent job.

Yeah, I can't remember the figure. It's not linked to inflation now like it was previously. 7.5% is at the back of my mind.

But with no job (or a job that pays under 21k), whether interest is racking up is a moot point. The problem for the government is that they will fronting a not insignificant amount of money that people won't be paying back because there are no jobs - indeed I think we are looking at another three years of 'no jobs'. Any debt not paid after 30 years is automatically removed as well.

So you're not doing university?

Why? If the Bachelor is becoming (or, should I say, has become) the High School Diploma / the GCE / whatever, then what use is it to be less qualified than the vast majority of people?

@Aly

I was really wrong regarding interest:

"The interest rate on student loans will remain at zero until graduates earn £21,000 – when they will be charged three per cent, plus inflation. If debts are not repaid after 30 years, they will be wiped out." (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/un ... -mean.html)

And 'Student debt nears £60,000 for 2012 university freshers, survey predicts'.

I foresee a shit load of debts being wiped out by the government and the current set up just not being sustainable in the medium term. It's not only unfair and nasty it's fucking daft as well.

If the monarchy haters would get their way and Britain would change to a republic, we wouldn't say 'the UK' any more. We would say 'URESWNI'. That stands for 'United Republic of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.' Now that's a bit too long.

A combination of being thick (C in Government and Politics, D in History and English A levels lul) laziness in not doing any of the UCAS stuff and not being a very good all round person in that I never did extra curricular activities of anything (aside from Yu-Gi-Oh but I don't think that counts), never had a job and I have absolutely no idea what I want to actually do for the rest of my life. Nothing out there motivates me or grabs my attention enough to think, 'Yeah, I'll do that'. I just kind of blurred through college.

This is looking pretty bloggy >.> Must stick to the june deadline <.<
