It's well known that Gandhi was a racist at least during part of his life. If it makes you feel better, he became less racist over time and his statements were not more racist then what was the norm during that era. He was a young man when he made most of these statements and segregation was heavily in style.

It is, of course, necessary to judge individuals based on the morals of the era they lived in, not the ethics of today. There were individuals alive during that time period who were more ethical then Gandhi but few of them are known because they were not in the right position to be the public face of the liberation of the Indian people.

Overall Gandhi is an interesting person historically who helped his people and many of his methods proved useful and continue to prove useful today.

One funny thing about the OP is he is directing this as almost an attempt to "troll" "liberals". Well, "liberals" primarily focus on one part of Ghandi. Non violent methods of social change.
