Forum Mod. The others seem like a lot of/more responsibility, and I say that trying not to offend the actual Forum Mods.

DLN went around for years acting like a mod while pulling a Eutrusca like 'smiley' (in the form of a signature stating she wasn't a mod) to get away with it. She desperately wanted to be a mod and eventually she got her wish.

Just for the record, that bit in the signature about NOT A GORAM MOD wasn't even put there by me. It was put there by Scolo after people kept coming into the irc channel and mistaking me for a mod there because I was an op in it for a good long time. I kept it on as a continuation of a very long-running joke, and modified it when it surprisingly changed.

There's never been any 'desperation' involved. If anything, being a moderator limits what you can do here more than enhances it, and anyone who's held the position with any degree of seriousness knows that.

If anyone has any questions about my behavior on the forums, any rulings made, comments left, they are more than welcome to file a GHR, or post a thread in the Moderation forum about it. The former won't have me involved, as those are handled by a group of uninvolved game mods and admins. And yes, we do keep tabs on one another, and are called to account for things that are out of line.

Please don't continue this discussion here - either file your reports, or tg me with questions/comments. Now back to your regularly-scheduled nonsense.

In all fairness, I do not know exactly what type of mod I would, or could, be nor do I think that I could give a balanced answer as to how would I react to things after a month of being a mod.

I'd honestly want to be a game mod. I've been a mod on sites with a fair amount of traffic and had the responsibility of using the banhammer and really it wasn't fun. In the opinion of the other mods, I was too lenient, and in the opinion of the users, I was too hard (because I closed down a trollfest of a topic). Frankly, it's a lot of demanding work and not to mention I found it hard to get along with a lot of mods on the site because they were hardarses and elitists who worked more to keep things going for their friends and themselves rather than the whole community. Not to mention there was major Forum politics going on, with arseloads of backstabbing and I was dragged into it because I was a mod. Not saying I'd see the same problem here, but I'd prefer to avoid the possibility of drama in any way I can. So sticking to games would be nice.

But then the regular mod crew would spend the next five years trying to fix everything the temp mods did. Just because someone has been here a very long time doesn't mean they are good mod candidates. Some of us are right bloody-minded cusses.

Eh, restrict their powers to only giving out warnings. All warnings can be overturned and the record of said action removed.

The length of time on NS doesn't confer immediate maturity or wisdom, but it is generally a good barometer of said traits. Players with older nations are more likely to be older themselves and are thus less likely to go on a random troll/ flaming spree. Yet I digress, it was simply an interesting idea, not a practical plan of action, heh.
