Blaming Scotland!

Postby Hillpark » Thu Sep 03, 2009 10:29 am

Why Blame a Nation for a MSP's (Kenny MacAskill; The Minister for Justice in the Scottish Government).

The Scots had no Say in the matter, so the Scots and the rest of the United Kingdom shoud not be ashamed of themselfs.

So Mr. MacAskill should be ashamed of himself for letting a Mass-Murderer Go, Scotland would be happy to hand the Lockbie Bomer to America!.

The AMERICANS GOT BLAMED FOR GEORGE BUSH AND HIS CRAP, SO PLEASE DONT BECOME WHAT YOU HATED.

Think About It!

Think Before You Judge!

Look at how Many Americas, Scots & British who died!

Tough. Americans get called all sorts of names because of things our government does. Suck it up.

EDIT: Okay, maybe that's a little harsh, but really, what did you expect? People don't differentiate between Governments and the People. That would require thought.

So you would denounce one act of cowardice (handing al-Megrahi to the Libyans) by suggesting another (handing MacAskill to the Americans)? And you think this somehow reflects better on the Scottish people?

I was talking about the Lockerbie Bomber!, Sadly he's not here and no one had a say on that.

You should have been clearer in your statement. But what would we have done with him had you given him to us? I don't believe any US courts have jurisdiction, since the crime happened on Scottish soil (or airspace). While I'm not intimate with the details of the case, I have heard that the main witness against the man was questionable. Apparently money changed hands in getting his testimony.

No, it was an American plane, with some American passengers who were on their way home, some of whom were traveling there to celebrate Christmas.

Still, does that give US courts jurisdiction? In which case, why wasn't he tried over here in the first place? Like I said, I'm just guessing here.

No. Planes owned by American companies do not carry little spheres of American jurisdiction around with them.

Kind of what I thought.

Oh well, Hillpark, looks like Scotland has to keep the issue and the bad press that goes with it. We'd love to have helped out but there was really nothing to be done.

Your post is a wee bit nonsensical. Especially taken in the context of this thread. Would you care to explain, preferably in more understandable English?

I agree that Scotland is not to blame, and I am English but am not ashamed. I blame Westminster and, more specifically, New Labour. Not only does this secure better relations and possibly oil deals with Libya, but it also makes the Scots Nats in Scotland look less popular and boosts Labour's chances of limiting their losses to the SNP in Scotland in 2010.

Well, let's see.

The plane crashed in Scotland.
The man accused of bombing the plane was prosecuted in Scotland.
The man convicted of bombing the plane was imprisoned in Scotland.
The man subsequently was diagnosed with terminal cancer and released, by a Scottish judge, under Scottish law, for compassionate grounds.

Whether you like it or not, your judicial system's fully responsible for the whole affair. Whether you like it or not, the Scots are going to be tarred with the same "you are your government!" brush from some individuals, the same as some individuals tarred all Americans with "you're murderous scumbags because you elected Bush!" whether they had voted for the man or not. The same pleas to separate the American government from the people were rebuffed by some, and I expect the pleas to separate the Scots from their government will meet the same fate.

Sorry. It does suck being blamed for something you had no control over and disagree with.
