The "Gaystapo"

Postby I V Stalin » Wed Nov 09, 2011 1:35 pm

Apologies if already posted...

A leader of a UK political party, and former London councillor, Alan Craig, has written an article for the Church of England Newspaper, referring to the leaders of gay rights groups as the "Gaystapo" and "the gay Wehrmacht", saying they have occupied the "Sudetenland social uplands of the Home Office" and have "crushed" culture beyond the gay community "under their pink jackboot". Apparently it is "only 1938 and Nazi expansionist ambitions are far from sated". Craig goes on to describe the leaders of Stonewall and OutRage! as "Oberkommandos" and that same-sex marriage would be "the invasion of Poland".

Oh, and the editor of the newspaper has defended the article, though admitted "[Craig] has not won a lot of support with readers". No shit?

Apart from stringing out a tenuous and extremely poor taste metaphor (in fact, could he have found one more offensive?) long beyond breaking point, how far out of touch does this show the Church to be if this sort of rhetoric is not only published but encouraged under its name?

It's great. The more and more out of touch they appear the better.

Funny that the Gestapo hunted down gays. Pretty awful metaphor.

The church are intolerant biggots, preaching a religion based on tolerance and love. They are the ultimate hypocrites.
They really shouldn't have religious newspapers, cuz exactly this is gonna happen.

To put it into NSG-familiar terms, Craig decided to reductio ad Hitlerum in the fucking OP, and the mods are just fine with that. Max Barry (whoever is ultimately in charge of the paper) needs to step in personally before it brings the whole thing crashing down.

What a pleb.
we, unlike the bourgeoisie, have nothing to lose and therefore our expression will be the only honest one, our words will be the only challenging ones and our art will be the one revolutionary expression. We need new noise and new voices and new canvases to become something more than the last poets of a useless generation.

No, Hitler was anti-gay. Incredibly so. They are considered one of the top three holocoaust victims (Jews, Slavic prisoners, homosexual).

Of course he was, but piano wire was only for those who tried that plot.

And when they did it was even more evidence he was a complete twat at military tactics.

Well, as far as the "Christian People's Alliance," of whom I've never heard, are a proper "UK political party". They're not even the premier Christian Right lunatic fringe party in the UK.

That doesn't mean that the Church sanctions every single article that appears in the paper (though I thought this article was quite funny).

Besides which, the Church of England could yet withdraw funding in light of the pretend outrage this has whipped up.
