It's time to tear everything down and return to rugged individualism with everyone vigorously defending their little patch of territory.

America isn't great isn't because everyone gives back. It's because everyone can pursue their own interests. Something I'd much rather have seen in this speech would be this:
"Only here in America were the common folk of the Old World given a chance to show that they could do on their own, without a master to push and order them about. History contrived an earth-shaking joke when it lifted by the nape of the neck lowly peasants, shopkeepers, laborers, paupers, jailbirds and drunks from the midst of Europe, bumped them on a vast virgin continent and said: Go for it. It is yours!"

..."Oh, and just ignore the people already here. They don't even have a flag."

Am I going to be outspoken about Obama giving a speech to kids? Yes, I want to hurt his side as much as possible. Obviously I am concerned about this.

So, you're not even going to assess the speech first? Your sole criteria for protest is based on the party the person belongs to. And this is reasonable to you?
Baaaaa.....

If nothing else, it was a weakly worded message about "giving back", not about individualism. When the speech winds up with the question, "So today, I want to ask you, what's your contribution going to be?", you know you aren't listening to someone that values individual achievement or financial success.

Or how 'bout the first part?

"You'll need the knowledge and problem-solving skills you learn in science and math to cure diseases like cancer and AIDS, and to develop new energy technologies and protect our environment. You'll need the insights and critical thinking skills you gain in history and social studies to fight poverty and homelessness, crime and discrimination, and make our nation more fair and more free. You'll need the creativity and ingenuity you develop in all your classes to build new companies that will create new jobs and boost our economy."

All that learning can only be used to help society, not for personal gain.

Where do you see the word "only" -- I mean besides in your head?

Harvey Milk of course.

But haven't you heard ever famous person that is looked up to or idolised was gay.
You know you've made it on NSG when you have a whole thread created around what you said.

No. He's announcing his intention to get her to commit statutory rape on him by blackmailing her with evidence of her going against school policy.

I find it extremely unlikely you could actually accomplish anything... Since we're talking about a SOCIAL STUDIES teachers, which subject also covers CIVICS, including issues like present politics and present POLITICIANS, such as the PRESIDENT... Worst thing you're likely to do is get her transferred with a pay-raise...

They didn't ban it for nothin folks. I'm from South East Missouri... I don't think you fully understand how un-Obamican it is here.

It is basically like a teacher in an urban area in Southern California teaching the theory of creation, or teaching that the global warming theory might not be correct.

And I meant my history teacher who is gay, obviously. ;)

EDIT: Buuut, it turns out that the owners of the local home decoration store the 'Smiths' (really rich ones) through a fit before I could... :(

That might make more sense if the speech had been a political one.. But then, I can see why conservatives would oppose a message of "stay in school, study hard, get a good education."

It is basically like a teacher in an urban area in Southern California teaching the theory of creation, or teaching that the global warming theory might not be correct.

Except the teacher teaching the theory [sic] of creation would be teaching a proven falsehood, and global warming is a pretty solid scientific consensus. These things aren't matters of personal opinion.

And I meant my history teacher who is gay, obviously. ;)

Pfft, I don't believe you. If you're in Southeastern Missouri, you'd obviously lynch any person known to be gay, because clearly all southern people fit exactly into that bigoted stereotype.
EDIT: Buuut, it turns out that the owners of the local home decoration store the 'Smiths' (really rich ones) through a fit before I could... :(

Actually, it's a good thing... They will pull their kids out rather than get the education. Eventually, after years of inbreeding in their closed social-groups they will get dumber and dumber till they're no longer capable of reading the names on the ballots and lose any voting power, merely becoming a "random" factor in the polls...
Such heroic nonsense!
