The poll is over, and a single nominee has attained a plurality of votes.

The Commitee (that is, myself), on behalf of the NSGers, congratulates the

Middle East Revolutionaries of 2011, also known as the Arab Spring
(organization, multinational)

with the

NSG Prize for Peace, 2011

for their fight against oppression, dictatorship, and corruption; for their attempt at enacting true democracy in the Middle East; with the hope that the action for freedom and social justice will extend to other regions of the world in the next year.

The Committee (that is, myself, again) wants to honour with a Special Mention the UNESCO, for years of work in identifying, reserving and making known and available to all people the exceptional natural and human heritage this world offers. The Committee also wants to voice its disapprovement for the recent decision of some UN member countries of boycotting UNESCO as method of political pressure. The protection of culture, monuments and natural heritage, to the benefit of all humanity, is more important than political divisions.

Just like last year, it's time for the NSG PEACE PRIZE!
Every one of us will be able to nominate a single RL individual, or a single RL organization, which deserves to be honoured for the extraordinary contribution given to the cause of human rights and/or peace. Please explain summarily what the contribution is.
Also inanimated objects are eligible, see rules below.

NOTES & RULES

ABOUT THE NOMINATIONS PHASE:

• The nominations phase will last until Friday, November 11th, 2011, h13.00 GMT. Hence it's over now.
• Every single nomination will have to be supported by at least 5 NSGers to pass to the next stage - poll between the 10 most supported nominations. ...if less than 10 candidates will have reached 5 nominations, I'll try to include in the final poll also those who got 4, or eventually 3, nominations only.
• REAL LIFE individuals, REAL LIFE organizations. No NS Nations, groups of NS Nations, or otherwise fictional nominees.
• PEOPLE must be ALIVE at the moment of the nomination.
• INANIMATED OBJECTS accepted also, provided they are single, physical objects still existing at the moment of the nomination. As a guideline - it should be something eligible as UNESCO World Heritage (material or immaterial).
• ALWAYS provide a good explanation of the contribute your nominee has given.
• ONLY ONE nomination per NSGer, please. THIS INCLUDES SUPPORTING OTHER NOMINATIONS: if you already nominated someone you cannot support someone else's nomination. You can retire a nomination/support you previously made/gave (I'd prefer you didn't though, because the thread would become a mess!)
• Note: If you aren't submitting a new nomination, and are instead going to support someone that has already been nominated, be sure to check the WHOLE nomination list.
• NO NOMINATIONS VIA TG WILL BE ACCEPTED. ONLY POSTS IN THIS THREAD.
• Previous winners of the prize cannot be nominated.

• Herman Cain (5 nominations, Hippostania, New Kilballyowen, Herskerstad, Thatius, Eternal Yerushalayim) (USA), for being one of the few politicians who has the guts to say what's right and wrong. He's an honest man who stands behind his belief. For example, he has been one of the few politicians who has criticized the OWS-movement, and telling Americans who they really are: un-American people who want to blame everyone else for their own misfortunes. Herman Cain is the man who could really unite America if he becomes the president. Also, for his energetic foray into politics which restores at least a semblance of hope that it's not just career politicians who can get elected. (NOTE: so far this motivation fails to highlight a specific contribution to peace or human rights... I'm sure you can expand/write a better one)
  
  
• Wikileaks and Julian Assange (5 nominations, Ashmoria, Christmahanikwanzikah, Biop, Ravineworld, Eggy216 ) (Australia + organization, multinational), for bringing needed truths to light; for bringing us the truth despite the US governments desperate attempts to defy the constitution and shut them the fuck up. Also, opened the closets of the world's hegemony to reveal some of its skeletons. When the truth becomes Treason, we have a problem.
  
  
• Gao Yaojie (1 nomination, Serrland) (PR China), for having been an AIDS activist in China for decades - a role that has put her in conflict with PRC authorities. She has put a strong emphasis on education and empowerment (especially in rural and impoverished areas) as a basis for AIDS prevention. She has also urged strict medical practices to ensure safe blood transfusions and has dedicated much of her career to helping children made orphans by AIDS. Despite (or because of) all the good work she has done for AIDS prevention and support of the HIV positive community in rural China, she was put under house arrest in 2006 and has frequently been prohibited from traveling abroad until ultimately seeking asylum in New York.
  
  
• Max Barry (2 nominations, The Republic of Lanos, Salvarity) (Australia), for giving us this great game, possibly producing great future leaders.
  
  
• Kim Jong-Un (2 nominations, Syvorji, Boratdom) (DPR Korea), for learning how to rule Korea.
  
  
• The NS Moderation Team (2 nominations, Ipeland, The Corparation ) (organization, multinational), for keeping the peace on the forums.
  NOTE: I accept this nomination with reserve; peace on the forums PER SE isn't much relative to real life, so I'd prefer the motivation to be expanded and the nominee's eventual contribution to real life to be underlined.
  
  
• Justin Raimondo (1 nomination, Seleucas) (USA) , as he and the rest of Anti-War have been fighting tooth and nail to stymie US imperialism, which is the biggest threat to peace.
  
  
• Nanatsu no Tsuki (2 nominations, Nanatsu no Tsuki, Nicholas von Sinterklaas) (Spain & USA (right?)), for singlehandedly keeping the peace in her family when her grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's this past summer. Had she not played referee, like she did, her mother would've caused WWIII between her own and Nana's uncle. Also because any Nationstates player should be ranked higher than the population of Norway, abortion doctors and Herman Cain. Also for her thankless work in maintaining the bistro until its demise.
  
  
• Ann Coulter (nominated, but nomination was retired afterwards)
  
  
• Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert (6 nominations, Revolutopia, Jewish-Polish Empire, Escchelary, The United Shtetls of Russia, Wonderful Israel, Norstal ) (USA) for bringing trustworthiness to the news; for bringing levelheadedness, seriousness, and respectability to the confused and cutthroat world of modern journalism.
  
  
• Mahinda Rajapaksa (nominated, but nomination was retired afterwards)
  
  
• The population of Norway (5 nominations, Cordelea, Ailiailia, Risottia, Desori, SaintB) (organization, Norway), for standing together when that crazy gunman (note: Breivik) murdered the children. Also, special mention for PM Jens Stoltenberg, Stine Renate Håheim, and Helle Gannestad, for calling for more democracy, humanity, openness, love and unity between people as response to one of the most disgusting terror acts ever. (Yeah... basically, for being bronies).
  
  
• The population of Queensland (1 nomination, Saint Jade IV) (organization, Australia) for not losing their shit during the 2011 Summer of Disaster and showing true Australian spirit of mateship. And demonstrating to the rest of the world (especially New Orleans) how people should behave during a disaster.
  
  
• Fidel Castro (1 nomination, Rainara) (Cuba), for developing Cuba into a good nation.
  
  
• George Papandreou (1 nomination, The Deleted Chris) (Greece) for restoring a modicum of democracy to Euroland.
  
  
• NATO, (1 nomination, Rynatia) (organization, multinational) , for assisting the people of Libya in toppling their oppressive government. Without the intervention of the West, Gaddafi's tanks and soldiers would have crushed the revolution with relative ease and prevented the birth of yet one more potentially democratic government in the Middle East; without NATO a tyrant would rule Libya, now we have one extra free state.While not perfect she's getting there.

• Anonymous (1 nomination, greed and death) (organization, multinational), for contributing to social change and taking direct action for freedom of speech on the internet.
  
  
• Warren Hern (2 nominations, Bottle, Avenio) (USA), for being the last doctor in the USA who specializes in late-term abortions.
  
  
• Mustafa Abdul Jalil (3 nominations, Buffett and Colbert, Hossaim, Allrule ) (Libya), leader of the National Transition Council. I nominate him instead of the Arab Spring movement in general because that movement is comprised of many different sorts of people, not all of whose intentions are noble and methods attempts at peace. Jalil has always had a firm commitment to the law and had ruled against the Qaddafi regime on a consistent basis. He was very outspoken in favor of human rights, and against the Libyan government's oppression of its own people. And of course, he spearheaded the (successful) effort to eliminate the dictatorship in Libya. Hopefully he will be equally successful in establishing peace and democracy within the country.
  
  
• The people of Costa Rica, Grenada, Liechtenstein, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu (1 nomination, -St George ) (multinational) for having no army.
  NOTE: nomination accepted with modification, see wiki. Request for further changes can be accepted if sourced.
  
  
• Julius Malema (1 nomination, Great Malema ) (South Africa) for keeping South Africans distracted from murdering each other by entertaining us with his antics and for his sheer heroism in exposing the white agents who work for the BBC.
  
  
• Ron Paul (3 nominations, Vecherd, Infinite Harmony, Sibirsky ) (USA) for his strong work against war and his work against the war on drugs; also, as a Libertarian he is fundamentally promoting peace, as Libertarianism has as one of its main foundations the non-initiation of force/violence.
  
  
• Markus Persson aka "Notch" (3 nominations, Ionicus, Romegarett, Antricia ) (Sweden) for his amazing game "Minecraft", which helps the cause of human rights because it teaches you how valuable human life is: when you get creeper'd, you definitely realize it.
  
  
• The 111 British MPs who backed the EU referendum (3 nominations, Angleter, Krytenia, Vellosia ) (organization, UK) for their valiant stand, despite most of them coming under strong pressure from party whips and leaders (and many of them thus jeopardising their chances of future promotion), for the right of the United Kingdom to decide on its status as a country both now and for the future, and thus for voting in line with the clear will of the people to have a referendum on such an important issue; for their understanding that democracy concerns the people, not petty party politics.
  
  
• Gretchen Whitmer (1 nomination, Imsogone) (USA) for - while perhaps not (yet) a nationally known politician - having faced off against the Michigan Senate and in a sensible, rational statement denounced the bill that they had passed which, in substance, said that moral and religious grounds could excuse bullying behavior. I won't say it wasn't an emotional statement, because clearly the topic is highly emotionally charged, but she did not let emotion override her intelligence and logic.
  
  
• Viktor Bout (1 nomination, Paper Mache) (Tajikistan) for all his work on giving people the means to defend themselves.
  
  
• UNESCO (1 nomination, The Archregimancy) (organization, multinational), for helping to promote and preserve our natural and cultural world heritage under the World Heritage Convention.
  
  
• Vladimir Putin (1 nomination, Nazis in Space) (Russia), for his steadfast opposition to NATO's imperialist warmongering in Libya supporting a terrorist movement against it legitimate head of state, as well as for his laudable efforts in preserving Siberian Tigers and protecting priceless artifacts of long bygone times, making him a major environmental and archaeological activist.
  
  
• Kemal Kilicdaroglu (1 nomination, Kemaliste) (Turkey), leader of the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP). ...Due to him being an Alevi, (the most discussed minority group in Turkey, about whether they're non-muslim or muslim) he's constantly targeted by government-advocate media. ... he also broke all of prejudices organizing rallies in eastern provinces. He gave support to univeristy protests and internet censorship protests. ...He and his deputies still struggle for the rights of oppressed people in Turkey such as dissidents, homosexuals, journalists, minorities etc. in the parliament. ... He's also called Turkish Gandhi by public media.

• Wounded Warrior Project (2 nominations, Legital, Tergnitz) (organization, USA) for their purpose to: "To raise awareness and enlist the public's aid for the needs of severely injured service members; to help severely injured service members aid and assist each other; to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs"
