Iceland has a military. You're thinking of an army, and it's true that Iceland does not have a standing army. They do, however, have a military organization, the Icelandic Coast Guard. They have two patrol vessels armed with 40mm cannons, some pretty good EOD and expeditionary teams who have been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, an air defense network, and budgetary allocations earmarked specifically for defense.

I think a better research is needed. I will put this nomination on hold until a better, more complete list is written.

1.STOP RIGHT THERE. This support shall not be accepted because I'm not going to TRACE BACK all the "plus-n" through the thread. Repost your support stating CLEARLY who you do support IN THE POST.
2.And of course, rules. a) RL nominees, b) EITHER new nomination OR support for someone/thing that has already been nominated; it's an "exclusive or". Just to make it clear for everyone.

Iceland don't deserve to be on the list.

What for?

-St George wrote:Not having militaries.

On those grounds, the following should be disqualified from St. George's list for the specific reasons listed:

1) Greenland: not a sovereign state, but rather a fully autonomous component of the Kingdom of Denmark, which retains responsibility for Greenland's defence.

2) Faroe Islands: not a sovereign state, but rather a fully autonomous component of the Kingdom of Denmark, which retains responsibility for Island defence. Someone's just copied a list from this Wiki article, and then just left out the Vatican, haven't they?

3) Solomon Islands: While it's true that the military defence responsibilities of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) came to end in 2003, this is only because of the intervention of the Australia-led multinational Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI), which led to the disarmament of the RSIPF. Once RAMSI is withdrawn, it's expected that the RSIPF will regain its paramilitary national defence role. The RSIPF also maintains two armed patrol boats. So the situation in the Solomons is temporary, and only brought about by foreign military intervention.

4) Costa Rica: The nation is rightly proud of its historical decision to abolish its standing army in 1949. However, there's often a blurred line between national militaries and paramilitary police elements charged with national defence. And if Iceland is disqualified, then so should be the far more heavily armed Costa Rican Fuerza Pública. I mean, Costa Rican special forces train with the Israeli special forces.... It's not as if they're pussycats.

More ambiguously, one could contest the Marshall Islands, Micronesia and Palau on the grounds that their independence from the United States UN Pacific Trust Territory was made conditional on their handing responsibility for their national defence to the USA, which considers them a potentially strategic territorial asset in the Pacific. So their inclusion on the list is technically accurate, but perhaps slightly misleading.

Likewise, St. Vincent, St. Lucia, and Grenada have pooled responsibility for their national defence with the Caribbean Regional Security System, which offers a joint national security force for those three nations and Antigua, Barbados, Dominica, and St. Kitts. This is based in Barbados, and led by the head of the Barbados Defence Force. So again technically accurate, but more than a little misleading.

Occupy can get fucked. Unemployed, overpriveliged wets with nothing to do and no grasp of reality.

I nominate George Papandreou, for restoring a modicum of democracy to Euroland.

Anyone but the Occupy movement.

I guess I will nominate the Arabic 'spring' then, since they're most likely to be/stay ahead of the occupiers.

NATO, for assisting the people of Libya in toppling their oppressive government. Without the intervention of the West, Gaddafi's tanks and soldiers would have crushed the revolution with relative ease and prevented the birth of yet one more potentially democratic government in the Middle East.

1.He's dead. D.E.A.D.
2.Bullshit. If you want to look into the people who REALLY created the computing technology, look for:
the guys at IBM, Steve Wozniak, Paul Allen, Dennis Ritchie, Ken Thompson, Linus Torvalds, Richard Stallman (just quoting off my mind) ; also for those minor contributors like Volta, Faraday, Ampére, Ohm, Maxwell, Meucci, Boole, Siemens, Edison, Marconi, Hall, Einstein, Planck, Tesla, Fermi, Dirac, Von Neumann, Turing...
