I nominate the 111 MPs who voted for the EU referendum, for their valiant stand, despite most of them coming under strong pressure from party whips and leaders (and many of them thus jeopardising their chances of future promotion), for the right of the United Kingdom to decide on its status as a country both now and for the future, and thus for voting in line with the clear will of the people to have a referendum on such an important issue.

I hope by 'clear will of the people' you mean to have a referendum, because, as that poll shows, it's very much a close thing with regards to actually staying.

Cool.

That Guardian article is actually quite interesting (a first for the Guardian?), especially in the split between over 65s and 16-24 year olds.

Yes, I wonder if it's an age thing- that the current young will be Eurosceptics when they're old- or if demographics are tending towards Europhilia. If it's the latter, then there's a fairly decent chance that the UK would end up in a federal Europe in a few decades' time (if it forms).

I nominate the Arab Revolt for international peace and #OccupyWallStreet for national. If only one, then I choose the Arab Revolts. They are much more radical and earth shattering.

I wish to add my nomination to the occupy movement. Since I'm a puppet you can just chalk this up as UD's nomination.

I support the nomination for Herman Cain for the NSG Peace Prize of 2011.
Just have to say though, that Ann Coulter nomination gave me the kicks.

Please write up a clearer (and reasonabily short) motivation. See OP for a hint.

UPDATED UP TO THIS POINT.

Also I'm nominating:
The people of Norway, and expecially PM Jens Stoltenberg, Stine Renate Håheim, and Helle Gannestad, for calling for more democracy, humanity, openness, love and unity between people as response to one of the most disgusting terror acts ever.
(Yeah... basically, for being bronies). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jens_Stolt ... 11_attacks

Ok, I thought the link made it fairly clear, but here goes. The Senator in question, while perhaps not (yet) a nationally known politician, faced off against the Michigan Senate and in a sensible, rational statement denounced the bill that they had passed which, in substance, said that moral and religious grounds could excuse bullying behavior. I won't say it wasn't an emotional statement, because clearly the topic is highly emotionally charged, but she did not let emotion override her intelligence and logic. No, she's not known on the national stage yet, but this statement proved courage and sense on her part and let it be known that factions that try to weaken legislation designed to protect minorities won't remain unnoted.

Another +1 for SOME participants in the Arab Spring (i.e. the ones that aren't also militant religious fanatics).
