I hated Reagan passionately. To give ya'll and idea how old BK is, the first time I voted I voted against Reagan. Though my parents were Reagan Democrats. I was quite disgusted with them.

I campaigned for Ronald Reagan in 1980 and 1984. I was at the Century Plaza Hotel on Election Night in 1984 celebrating his victory (after which I went across the street to the Playboy Club to continue the festivities 8) ). I saw him when he visited the Rockwell International plant in 1983. And I used to see him in Century City after his retirement, when he had an office at the Die Hard Building.

Ronald Reagan was the greatest President of my lifetime. He should be the fifth face on Mount Rushmore. His policies are sorely needed now.

Ronald Reagan today would make a better President than Barack Hussein Obama can ever dream of being.

My thoughts on Reagan are summarized best by Gil Scott-Heron:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80JoQY3Oelk

"In this year that we have now declared the year from Shogun to Reagan, I remember what I said about Reaganmeant it. Acted like an actorHollyweird. Acted like a liberal. Acted like General Franco when he acted like governor of California, then he acted like a republican. Then he acted like somebody was going to vote for him for president. And now we act like 26% of the registered voters is actually a mandate. We're all actors in this I suppose.

What has happened is that in the last 20 years, America has changed from a producer to a consumer. And all consumers know that when the producer names the tunethe consumer has got to dance. That's the way it is. We used to be a producer very inflexible at that, and now we are consumers and, finding it difficult to understand. Natural resources and minerals will change your world. The Arabs used to be in the 3rd World. They have bought the 2nd World and put a firm down payment on the 1st one. Controlling your resources we'll control your world. This country has been surprised by the way the world looks now. They don't know if they want to be Matt Dillon or Bob Dylan. They don't know if they want to be diplomats or continue the same policy - of nuclear nightmare diplomacy. John Foster Dulles ain't nothing but the name of an airport now.

The idea concerns the fact that this country wants nostalgia. They want to go back as far as they can even if it's only as far as last week. Not to face now or tomorrow, but to face backwards. And yesterday was the day of our cinema heroes riding to the rescue at the last possible moment. The day of the man in the white hat or the man on the white horse - or the man who always came to save America at the last moment someone always came to save America at the last moment especially in B movies. And when America found itself having a hard time facing the future, they looked for people like John Wayne. But since John Wayne was no longer available, they settled for Ronald Reagan and it has placed us in a situation that we can only look at like a B movie."

When I think of Reagan, I automatically think of Reaganomics. Reaganomics was good in the sense that Reagan actually did get the economy back on track. But his unfair tax policies and deficit spending were the bad aspects of it.

This song is so true. It is all a movie. Reagan was an actor who acted his role just as all who are involved politics and movies.

He meant nothing to me, as simple as that. First, I'm not from the US, second, this country's presidents aren't important to me.

Unless you're from the Moon, our presidents are probably more important to you than you think. The United States' influence on the rest of the world, for good or for ill, is undeniable. I'm not from Russia, but their president is of at least some concern to me. Ditto for the leaders of Iran and North Korea.

French, once again, the presidents of the US mean nothing to me. They do not affect my day to day life nor the decisions I make. Hence, Reagan meant nothing to me. He was just another president of the US. Not even my own president means a thing to me.

Acually the US (Bush), deciding to occupied Iraq means a lot to France. The oil in Iraq goes mainly to France, Germany & Russia. That's the real reason they opposed it to begin with. The fact that Bush ordered to go in, means the US now has potical power over a good part of your country's oil supply. Now, France has less resistance in a world summit over US policy. At least until the US totally leaves (& that not going to happen).

Good or bad, the youth of today has no idea what is means to live under nucular threat. Therefore they will say "Nothing". Hopefully, however, they might read this thread & learn some history. There is good input from a few different sides.
