Our economy's shit anyway and there's no such thing as British culture. Ask a Scot about British culture.

I would argue that we're good for Europe.

After all, without the UK where would France dump it's unwanted asylum seekers, Germany sell it's beer considered unfit for local consumption and Spain sell it's cheap holidays?

Well that's just a technicality.... we haven't actually fully joined the EU because we haven't adopted many of the commands given to us from Brussels.

Yes!

Britain needs to integrate more with the EU, play a very active role in reforming the Union to make it more democratic and ultimately, more unified. Whilst a Federal Europe will probably not happen in any of our lifetime's (but is, eventually ineveitable), a common European foreign policy would empower Europeans to have a genuine say in how a globalised world is run. Otherwise our division will cost us our voice, and we (Britain) will always be little more than an accented arm of American influence.

As for national identity:
Your national identity does not need to be defined by your government. It is an extention of personal identity, and that can be whatever you chose it to be. National pride and heritage can be part of a well-formed self-image, but ultimately it must be rational pragmatism that we use to decide how we govern ourselves. And rationally, a more unified Europe is the only viable option.

A paraphrase is a restatement of an idea using different words. It's arguable whether you did that or not.

"Yes" for options 5, 6 and 7.
i don't really give much of a toss about our national identity*, and national sovereignity is long-gone in the modern, multilateral, multidependent world economy/political arena.

* though, as someone up there said, your national identity is your culture and who/what the people identify themselves with... not who your government is. though self-determination is always essential, so a Federalised system of a more unified Europe would be preferable.

The EU is a dreadful, corrupt, venal, excessively bureaucratic, inconsistent, hypocritical, risible institution. But it's all we got and I think it's better that we're in it than not. And we should definitely sign up to Schengen.

Sad and predictable to see that much of the British commentary has turned into England vs Scotland vs Wales vs Northern Ireland wang-waving. Colonic Immigration in particular would, I think, benefit from thinking a bit more before posting.
To live in England for the pleasures of social intercourse - that would be like searching for flowers in a sandy desert. ~ Nikolai Karamzin

The English think very highly of their own humanity; I am willing to admit they are not inhuman... ~ Louis Simond

The people of England choose to be, in a great measure, without Law and without Police; they have reached a very distinguished point in industry and civilisation without them. ~ Morning Chronicle
