Okay, but the point about "Mitt" is moot, since he's not going to win, even if he gets the nomination. The GOP Right will saddle him with a nut-case as VP.

Well, yeah. But the GOP today is not the same party it was in 2000.

Isn't this like when pro-Republican pundits call the Democratic Party the "Democrat Party". It's just a move calculated to enrage.

It is in fact like that. And it's juvenile, especially when done by professional punditry blurring any line that might exist between them and some jackass making an unrelated comment after a local news story...

Isn't that the purpose of pundits? To be the jackass making an unrelated comment? I mean, they're certainly not being hired because they get things right. Wasn't there a study where it found that if you planned for the opposite of what the pundits predict you'd be correct a higher percent of the time?

Also, it turns out Dan Quayle was James Danforth Quayle. Similarly, Gordon Brown's first name is also James. That's right Britain. You were a 50% chance away from having a Prime Minister named "James Brown". And you blew it. For shame.

Bill is a pretty casual name too.

William Jefferson Clinton is the kind of name you only use for the inauguration. If his first dad hadn't died, he'd have been William Jefferson Blythe III, honestly I doubt you could get elected to anything with a name like that.

I agree with CTOAN, it's trite to object to "Mitt".

Wasn't there a study where it found that if you planned for the opposite of what the pundits predict you'd be correct a higher percent of the time?

Well, I'll start backwards. I'm going to call that study dubious since there tends to be pundits who are at odds with the things they predict and the arguments they make, so I don't know how that would even work. Further, I don't know that it's the jobs of pundits essentially to make predictions that you're supposed to plan on. That would be psychics.

And yes, as of late that has been the flavor of punditry, to be bombastic, snarky, aggressive. But that's not their job, just how they go about their job. At its core, there's nothing wrong with someone forming the argument, making the argument so to speak. You can disagree with the argument made, you can find your own pundit that makes a counter-argument, that's fine. That's honestly part of the dialog. The way in which they have chosen to represent the argument, in their own individual ways (I don't want to fall into the trap of equivocation, not all pundits are equal and not all of their sins are shared) has shattered the discourse they're meant to elevate.

See, this is what I'm saying. People use their middle names and this preference says very little about them. Except that maybe for some reason someone would be tired of being called a Sex Machine...
