I really, really hope you're right. But between the CNN report last year on racism in the Secret Service, and the book about the Secret Service that just came out which depicts them as cutting corners, I don't have much confidence in them. I hope Obama is hand-picking his security details.

Also, the last President was neither black (thus deeply angering a lot of racist whites and probably some racist hispanics), nor widely portrayed by the opposition as Communist (an ideology still deeply feared and hated in America).

Probably the best case scenario would involve protests and race riots across the country. On the other hand, the backlash would probably kill what little credibility the Right has left for the foreseeable future.

Its horrible to think of though. Even those who don't like the man should hold human life as precious, and want to avoid seeing US politics plunged into violence and death. Obama is a human being, with a family, and moreover the whole nation would pay the price if he were removed from office violently.
