Yhep, it happened again, In California in the form of the DREAM act otherwise known as AB 130 and AB 131. AB 130, which has already been signed into law, gives illegal immigrants the right to be given private scholarships from colleges, and AB 131, which is on Governor Jerry Brown's desk right now. AB 131 gives illegals state funding to attend UCs and USCs. The program is expected to cost around 40 million per year.

California is also in a huge financial crisis, which makes this a huge toll on our economy. I live in California and you should see the huge budget cuts we are getting especially in education. My mother who attended college and got a masters degree in teaching, who works as a principle for a non-profit organization for disabled adults is being paid close to minimum wage. The staff that work under her are being paid minimum wage. In Oakland, they are expected to be closing over 27 schools and more and more teachers and programs are being kicked from the school system.

Not only is this a horrible idea considering the financial crisis but also a horrible idea that we are giving illegals the right to education over citizens. Thousands of students apply to UCs and out of those thousands only a handful are picked. Now when that position could go to a US citizen it goes to an illegal and on taxpayer funds too. I think this is just a sick and horrible idea, and I believe that we need the Federal government to intervene. It really needs to take a solid and uniform stance on immigration. I mean we are turning into a nation of extremes, just look at us, Arizona passes a huge anti-illegal law and California is on the verge of passing the DREAM act. This will make it harder for my children to get a higher education and get college level jobs, as if finding jobs, even college level ones, are really that easy to find

IIRC, the DREAM Act is essentially a bill that naturalizes illegal aliens that prove that they have earned a high school-level education and that have shown promise in excelling in post-secondary education.

I don't necessarily have a problem with this, though I am getting ready to apply for graduate studies at the end of this year and all you fuckers (legal or illegal) better not keep me from being accepted. D:<

I think you mean CSUs (California State Universities). USC is University of Southern California, a private institute.

the only problem is that even if they are educated, once they exit college, they will still be illegals, and people who hire illegals as store clerks are going to face a lot less pressure on them to not hire illegals than hospitals hiring doctors that are illegals. Technically they aren't supposed to be working at all, but if you have them on high income jobs aka more important jobs means that they will be in more powerful positions and positions in which they can drastically influence people's lives, which means that it would be opening a sort of pandoras box of what to do next. How would US doctors feel when they are denied being hired because and illegal doctor beat them to it?

If they're working, they automagically pay income and sales taxes, including tuition and other university fees that aren't covered by scholarships and/or grants, if they weren't so lucky to get them.

That's my issue too. They didn't pay any money in the form of income taxes, nor did their parents. If they want to go, they can pay out of state tuition, just like other Americans, who come to California to get an education. Not to mention that our state can't afford this. If they want to take out loans - those are also available. The Democrats are just doing this to rally the Hispanic Vote against third parties. Why can't Republicans run normal candidates in California?
