NC raised the subject as a 'response' to the issue of labour shortages, etc.

*shrugs*

(However, I have gone ahead and deleted the next post I made about it.) Can we similarly put a nix on NC's hijack about how Conservapedia justifies ignoring all the data that doesn't meet his desires?

Yup.

And just to reiterate, no warnings official or non were handed out or implied. No kittens were harmed (much) in the making of this post either.

Hah, you admit it!

And don't plead ignorance of the law, that kitten is underpaid. Probably should be in school right now too!

Well there's the fact that it's doing exactly what it's designed to. Illegal immigrants are leaving the country in some cases and no longer doing illegal work.

How do you know they're leaving the country? It's far more likely they moved interstate isn't it?

One of the sources that was just brought up focused on the inhumanity of a couple who came to the country illegally being unable to continue breaking the law and choosing to go back to Mexico.

Alabama should have made sure they had another source of labor before they got rid of 80% of their agricultural work force but that doesn't change the fact the law did exactly what it was supposed to.

I read it. In no way does it establish that the law is doing "what it's supposed to do". It's extremely weak even as anecdotal evidence.

That's why I said "In some cases" not "every single alien is gone hooray America." The law was supposed to discourage illegals from taking jobs or remaining in Alabama, that's what's happening. Even if they are just hopping across the interstate as you put it the law wasn't meant to effect other states, because other states are not Alabama.

I'm not arguing with its effectiveness, I'm saying that no matter how effective it's still irrational.

Scratch it (a less insane law), apply an anti-itch cream (fix the system that makes exploitation of undocumented labor the only economical way to run a farm), or realize that itches happen and ignore it exactly what it sounds like).

It's irrational to destroy our ability to harvest crops to remove a "problem" that harms no-one while simultaneously making every Hispanic in Alabama guilty until proven innocent every single time the go into public.

To explain that analogy to you, Mexico trying to rein in the drug cartels is like the Republicans trying to rein in the Tea Party. In both cases, the latter effectively control the former. How you managed to spin "The Tea Party runs drugs into Canada" from that would land you a spot on FOXNews.

My sarcasm detector never arrived with the rest of my "personal interaction supplies" kit. A few other things were missing too, that's what I get for ordering from IKEA.

And anyway, on topic, personal anecdotes do not trump statistics.
