I think a better way of putting it would be you don't get to decide which laws are enforced. Obviously we can all decide which laws we want to obey - its called free will.

This is a democracy (of sorts) and even our Constitution can be amended. We get to decide which laws are enforced.

In reality, the average case does not take that long. Going through all the steps you look at a year or two, if you do everything right. Two guys in my Company immigrated legally as teenagers - it took about 2 years for both of them. There's more steps to go through once you come over with a green card, yes, it isn't easy. Believe me, I understand the anger and frustration.

You really don't. Trust me, as someone who is a legal immigrant, I don't take your assurances about the realities as overly convincing.

Cristian Gonzalez, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, is a stay-at-home mother of four who lives in a mobile home in suburban Birmingham with her husband. They sneaked across the border in 2009 and planned to save money and eventually return to their home country.

"We're afraid to go to Walmart. I'm afraid to walk the kids up there to get the bus. I am afraid to drive," Gonzalez said.

Her husband worked as a brick mason and cook, but was recently unemployed. Now they have decided they probably will return to Mexico.

Your "refutation" linked to a heavily biased report that didn't differentiate between legally immigrated foreign born Latinos and illegally immigrated ones, by using data about "foreign born" ones having lower unemployment rates than "native born" ones to claim that therefore illegal immigration was the reason. That's not a refutation, that's bullshitting.

Possibly. Prices would jump sharply, and something like another 20 million jobs can be expected to dry up. Not even looking at other knock-on effects like the sudden cessation of spending by illegal aliens, or the drying up of many millions of dollars of tax revenue, the immediate effects on prices and employment would be hugely unfavourable to the status quo.
