Moon base?

Postby Sjovenia » Mon Sep 26, 2011 6:35 pm

Do you think that if NASA or America had enough money to go to the moon do you think we would have been/ or are able to have a moon base on the moon. And lets be real I'm not talking star wars Sci-Fi im talking modern day moon base kind of like a station but on the moon? I just want your feedback and your thoughts on this topic. if you can find pictures to go along with them then thats cool to but no droids and light sabers or aliens...lets keep it MT.

Well, we had Project Horizon and Project Lunex. The Soviets had a moon base plan, too. So a lunar base isn't that far off, it's all about funding.

I imagine they desperately wanted to but when they came to the box marked 'State your reasons for wanting this project to be undertaken' they spent a long time scratching their heads and being unable to get past '..because it would be awesome' as a response.

A moon base would be pretty cool on the moon. The base would be a space colony i think.

possibly

we have found deep trenches with ice in them and that have moderate protection from falling objects. We certainly have the technology to build it as well, though, unless we can build a reliable ceterfuge to generate "gravity", time spent on it would have to be kept under a year at a time.

Well, there's the human colonization bit to save the human race. If we can survive on the Moon, we're a step closer to surviving on Mars, which gets us a step closer to surviving in another solar system. Shouldn't put all out eggs in one basket, see.

more land, assuming we can generate an artificial atmosphere and artificial gravity, is a good reason in my eyes

I don't really see any reason to establish a base on the moon, it has no resources or anything of use to us. Unless I'm wrong and someone can correct me.

I would prefer a moon base on Mars, but only if the base was a...something that isn't a base. I don't know.

We do have a moon base:

If you want a fully functioning moon base that are constructed like the buildings here on Earth, then no. That's impossible in our lifetime. A moon base like that probe however, is very well possible.

A base purely for observation, like measuring radiation, solar flare, Earth's atmosphere, etc. would be invaluable. A base for economic means, well, there is tourism. Though, I suppose that would be very small.
