Have you mentioned that the origins of Christmas have similar parallels to the origin of Halloween, so by their logic, one shouldn't celebrate Christmas either?

Also, how close are these people to you and Gallo?

They don't celebrate Christmas either. They say that is also a holiday steeped into Pagan rituals. That's one of the reasons I'm traveling to spend the Holidays with my family.

As for how close they are? Try his parents.

I wonder what it is that inspires such legalism. It seems that in the rural Bible Belt communities are popping up almos to rererepurify Christianity, and this time it's the shirking of classic cultural holidays. I don't understand it.

Speaking of Halloween, that reminds me:

Really, that's worst possible name for a holiday ever.

It was my fault. I didn't watch what I was saying and blurted out that I wanted to dress up for Halloween.

As for Independence Day? Nah, they don't celebrate anything (holidays or birthdays). The only 2 things they observe are Easter (one day Memorial) and wedding anniversaries.

Indeed. Personally, I think such people are the Ruths and Haskels of their respective communities. Their logic is flawed, yet at the sametime, due to inexplicable mental gymnastics on their part, flawless as well... Quite the paradox...

That's not bad. I don't know why you thought you couldn't succeed in it. Python is a high-level language, lots of companies would hire you (assuming you're proficient at it).

Actually, I didn't know they celebrated Easter, though, upon second thought, its not pagan, so they really can't come up with a valid reason not to.

My sister once said that Mother's Day and Father's Day were pagan holidays that stemmed from the Romans worshipping their parents. :eyebrow:  WTF?

I'd never heard of that, and while it wouldn't surprise me if it were true, it doesn't automatically mean that one shouldn't set aside a day for one's parents, especially when those parents are loving, kind, and supportive. She's my half-sister, by my dad's first wife, who was a total bitch, so I can understand her not celebrating Mother's Day. But not a day for Dad? Yeah, they love each other, and know it, but still...

But Halloween is the holiday with the second-highest spending on shit people don't need, business loves Halloween almost as much as Christmas.

Easter is pagan. It comes from the fertility goddess Eostre.

Christmas always reminded me of holidays with Ruth and Haskel...so I'm not really big on Christmas anymore. Except for giving gifts to friends (although I do keep in mind the spirit of the season).

As for me, I was literally born 1 week to the day before Halloween. Its practically my personal holiday. 8)

JWs try, according to them, to live by Bible principles. I suppose these holidays aren't in the Bible, but by the life of me I can't see anything wrong with them. Halloween, to me, has always been a cool night to dress up and gorge in candy. Not to worship the devil or anything of the sort. Christmas is a time for families to come together. I don't see anything wrong with it either. But JWs certainly do.

I try not to delve too much in their reasons. They're not, all in all, bad people, but you know, they think differently about certain things. Like, Harry Potter is complete anathema to them. I find the book quite innocent as it is.
