Should Any Unrecognised Nations Be Recognised?

Postby West Vandengaarde » Thu Sep 15, 2011 3:17 pm

Pretty simple, really.

Out of all the nations not unanimously recognised by the other nations of the world, which deserves recognition most?
I guess I'd probably say Palestine.

Tibet and Sealand as pipe dreams. I could probably create a larger list of states with little to no recognition I don't want recognized.

Sealand probably would anger the Brits if it were recognised considering the agonising negotiations over water boundaries and other statistics that would result from it.

Those are pretty much completely recognised, however.

Somaliland, hopefully. Maybe Hutt River Principality for fun.
This was formerly a signature. One day, it may return to its splendid past. In the meantime, enjoy some pictures of my cats.

Why? Sealand is legally outside of British territory, as the British courts recognize.

Should probably recognise Somaliland. It's not great, but at least it's having a go at having a government.

Also, another point I forgot to make: Tibet hasn't declared independence so it doesn't really fit the thread.

This may not end well... but here goes.

I recognize the Republic of China. You may call them Taiwan, but they have never been ruled by the Communists and continues to exist.

Oh, I completely agree. Either the PRC needs to relinquish claims on the RoC or the RoC needs to relinquish claims on the PRC, though.

I refer you to this map. Legally, both nations would, had water boundary laws not come with restrictions, both could lay claim to the others shore. But, as UN stated that no nation may, due to the convoluted laws they pass on the subject, claim another nations sovereign territory that lays in their twelve miles out at sea. Roy Bates, Prince of Sealand, assumes that the sea territory is divided evenly in half in all disputed areas until negotiations are offered by the British.

Do Chinese characters give you bad flashbacks?
Or does overinflated nationalism make you sad?
