Simple question -- if the world was a single nation (heh), what city would you want to be its capital~?

My vote -- Istanbul. A place where East meets West, with Islamic-on-Christian-on-pagan histories. It's been ruled by Roman pagans, Byzantine Christians, and Turkish Muslims, and so has inherited more-or-less the culture of all three. And, Napoleon Bonaparte once said -- "If the Earth were a single state, Constantinople would be its capital."
Or maybe it's just my own personal biases that make me choose Istanbul.

My second choice would be Jerusalem -- holy to the majority of the world's population, and has been ruled by Jews, Christians, pagans, and Muslims.

I vote for one of the historically independent cities of Europe, such as Cologne, or Salzburg, or Gdansk.

I'm not sure. I think continents could be states, with a capital for each.

New York for NA, Rio for SA, Cape Town for Africa, Berlin for Europe, and Hong Kong for Asia.

Have them deal with most issues, but when it is a global issue, send representatives to a base either in space, or in Antarctica, to ensure neutrality.

Geneva.
Long tradition in neutrality, tolerance, multi-linguism, and hosting people from all over the world (UN and CERN).
Reasonabily small, but with an intercontinental airport in the city, another one (Zurich) nearby, and three other large airports in at less than 4 hours either on rails or on road: Lyon, Basel, and Milan.
Also, a beautiful city on a lake, with a glorious view over the Alps and a decent climate.
